I purchased this product because I was thrilled at the prospect of not having to change wicks. I still have an old water wheel style humidifier that is still working altho parts are difficult to find. Why they ever stopped making this style is beyond me. As with other reviewers of this style humidifier, I find cleaning the components a nasty inconvenience. The humidity levels it produces are about 40% which is acceptable, but overall, not great. Yes water has minerals, and yes I expected some buildup, but the design of this unit makes it difficult to clean the build up from the aspirator and especially the fan blades which make a ticking sound as lime buildup collects on the fan blades and air shaft. The blades do not come off and cleaning the inside of the shaft is a big hassle. I am giving this another week to see if the buildup is consistently this bad, but I am pretty much resigned to the idea that this unit will be returned, and I will have to put up with water wick style humidifiers. Someone PLEASE...go back to water wheels!!
