there are no endcaps so you see the wires on the sides
1 Star Review   By slp123 on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

I don't understand why there are no endcaps on this. without them when you look on the sides you see right inside where the wires hook into the wall. Essentially, large open holes on both sides. We got it all hooked up, then realized this. As far as performance, we've only had it up for a couple of days, but it seems to be working fine. Overall, not very happy with this product.

Great addition to our home!!
5 Star Review   By Amyd421 on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

This 7 day programmable thermostat is simply amazing. It was easy to install and very easy to program thanks to the "copy" feature it has. I love that you can adjust the times of day and not have to stick with the preset times. It's great not having to try to remember to adjust the temp before I leave the house and then again when I get home but having to wait for It to cool down.

Lots of Connections
5 Star Review   By Skier1575 on Home Depot - Mar 12, 2013

It has lots of connections so it should work for most applications. Installation took 15minutes in the dark using a flash light. Programmable for 4 different temperatures 7 different days each week. Trouble free for almost 1yr and counting.

Eats batteries and cheap plastic tabs break
2 Star Review   By Merbine on Home Depot - Mar 3, 2013

The unit eats batteries, despite being wired per instructions to a modern heat pump/air conditioner. Only 1.5 years old. Also, the plastic tabs that hold cover on are breaking off due to poor design for access--not room for all the wiring, is part of the problem.

Not an easy install
3 Star Review   By Jerry on Home Depot - Jan 14, 2013

Has nice features for the price, and the warranty, however, it doesn't have enough room to route 4-5 wires to the terminal block. Very poor design compared to ones I've installed before Also, instead of programming 5 days then 2 days you have to program a day then copy it to other days a little more time involved. Also, the the alignment install holes are different seems like the companies would make them all the same so when you replace an old one

QA is a joke
1 Star Review   By JCB1 on Home Depot - Dec 29, 2012

What are the chances I get a defective product. The unit would turn the fan on but not the Heat nor A/C. Be careful with this product... It may cause you to spend more money on HVAC service call.

Nice unit so far, time will tell.
4 Star Review   By DJMasters on Home Depot - Nov 16, 2012

Took a little longer to replace than the suggested 15 minutes since the annotations on the old thermostat didn't translate to the Filtrete. A few minutes on the internet got me the installation instructions for the old Honeywell and I could get things cross-referenced. Programming was easy and perfect for my odd work schedule/days, the old 5-2 thermostat just wasn't what I needed. So far it works as advertised, time will tell how durable it is. Note/Comments on lambition's review & pictures: There should be a piece of thick white tape in the package to stick on top to cover the wires. I agree that it's not a great design or solution, but it is what it is. I think the gaps in the side are for optional add-on modules, like a WiFi receiver from the more expensive model. I'm guessing that's the only difference between them, WiFi receiver or not.

Fine but keep manual, glasses, and flashlight handy!
4 Star Review   By Homeward on Home Depot - Jun 21, 2012

Overall I like this thermostat, it's easy to adjust the temp and to read the display, but I do have to keep the manual nearby to recall how to reprogram when the seasons change. I also just changed the batteries for the first time (got it a year ago) and was VERY disappointed I had to reset day/date/time and the programming. This wouldn't be such a nuisance if the touch pad symbols/text weren't gray on white and in a very small font. I wear bifocals, but was still frustrated a bit, esp. as the thermostat isn't located near a bright light source.

Do not buy.
1 Star Review   By Colourman on Home Depot - May 29, 2012

I bought this thermostat to replace an older Honeywell unit that only activated certain features of our Heat Pump/AC unit instead of all of them. The Filtrete was even worse and didn't activ ate anything. I called in Professionals who determined that the problem was with the Heat Pump which they fixed, The Honeywell Thermostat worked perfectly but when they replaced it with the Filtrete it didn't work at all. They concluded it was non functional when I bought it so that I had totally wasted my money.

I would buy something else instead...
3 Star Review   By DIYers on Home Depot - Mar 24, 2012

Not the easiest thermostat to install...When we first installed this thermostat, it blew fuses and the AC didn't work for an entire day until we figured this out. Thankful for an honest AC guy's knowledge over the phone! This was in August, in the South, and we were irate...and hot! Replaced the fuses and got it working just fine. Now seven months later, the display screen has gone out. Thought a simply battery replacement would solve the issue, but no! We had to uninstall it at the advice of a 3M tech support guy. Took it back to HD with no problems, but now I have some (!) alert on it. Just frustrating...

Great Unit
5 Star Review   By 755victor on Home Depot - Feb 15, 2012

Does everything I wanted it to do; and does it accurately. Programming is straight forward. Particularly like the energy saver button that decreases the setting by four degrees when we're gone for awhile.

Too many tiny buttons. Complicated to use
3 Star Review   By rajdude on Home Depot - Feb 10, 2012

Now, don’t get me wrong I am VERY tech savvy and have used other types of touchscreen thermostats from Honeywell in my other home. In fact I have three there…one on each level controlling a 3 zoned system which I installed myself. That is MUCH easier to use daily. Simple to understand buttons and even my wife can operate that. This one is another story. Way too many buttons! I think they are pretty confusing. For example the most used button….hold temp button should be bigger….easily locatable. But it is a tiny button having even tiny print. I should have got a touchscreen model. But they were like twice the price of this one. My old eyes have a hard time with the super tiny print on this model. The best part is that it comes pre-programmed. I did read the manual….it is pretty good. Installation was easy but I did have to call tech support once because I needed the C wire. Without that this thermostat won’t even turn on.. So if you don’t have the C wire…you will have to use the batteries. I did not want to use batteries. Overall, I’d say..splurge the extra $40 bucks and get the touchscreen Honeywell models. They are easier to use on a day to day basis.

Waste of time and money
1 Star Review   By Wingbud on Home Depot - Feb 5, 2012

Tried two. First one would not hold program settings. At all. I got the second one to program and settings appeared correct. The furnace runs to 71-72 degrees although the filtrete thing is set at 68. The hold function doesn't work. It goes back to the program mode at first program change time. That is to say, it is the same as the override function. 100% failure rate... WOW! If you must buy it keep the box and receipt. (They look good though.)

Work fine - *IF* they work
1 Star Review   By Irony58 on Home Depot - Jan 19, 2012

The first one I bought would not go into Fahrenheit. There's a jumper to set the mode and that made no difference. The one I got in return worked fine. I needed a second thermostat and on this one the switch in Heat mode doesn't work. Only Cold and Off. A 66% defect rate is unacceptable. This isn't a dollar-store item, but the quality control appears to be similar. The one that worked is fine. It's easy enough to program, although the key labeling is a little goofy. Some keys the text is over the button, others under. Just takes some getting used to.

OK but a couple of surprises
4 Star Review   By larryboy on Home Depot - Jan 5, 2012

I bought this because of kids and a housekeeper going thru menopause (housekeeper not kids) fiddling with thermostat. Bought solely for price and for the lock feature. The description says the press and hold lock will lock all buttons, but the side fan switch and the heat off cold switch didnt lock. Not a big deal, I programmed cold @ 80 (its winter). I''ll reverse in summer. I took off wall, shaved the fan switch until it was not sticking out of case (set on auto). Figure kids will be back at facebook and xbox before they figure that out. Kind of irritating though. Wiring diagrams, stickers, install instructions were great. My install has a jumper between RC and RH (not an uncommon install) and the instructions didnt cover that. I assume the customer service # would help people with that. Not my first thermostat rodeo so not a problem for me. Would have been a 15 minute install but for having to take back off wall to shave fan button. Easy to use and to program. 4* for unit--would have been 5 at that price but for all the the buttons not locking. Otherwise, nice easy install (I only used 2 screws at top-thats all you need). Seems to work great. Notwithstanding above, at this price I would recommend. People complaining about temp accuracy, you can calibrate the thing. Maybe it wasnt properly set at factory or got thrown off during install/program or on the long boat ride from China. Easy to calibrate-read instructions.. People complaining about the open sides-that's so it can accurately read ambient temp.

Disapointed.
1 Star Review   By James on Home Depot - Dec 17, 2011

Replaced old for this programmable style. Leaves a lot of or space open behind the unit which revealed previous screw holes and mismatched paint. Wires feed from the top and in my case revealed the hole where the wires came through. Probably wont in most cases but in order to hide old screw holes the best I could this was the case. Programming was just not easy. You will probably need to hold on to the instructions. I returned it for the Honeywell model which was so simple I didn't even need to reed the instructions.

So far so good
4 Star Review   By alanarko on Home Depot - Dec 10, 2011

Now that I'm retired, I needed to replace my old 5-2 thermostat with one allowing greater program flexibility. I have a single stage gas furnace, no A/C, so installation and programing was straight forward. My only complaint is it's appearance. The back half (wall side) of this unit looks unfinished with deep cavities visible on both sides and the wiring visible where it enters the unit on the top. To hide the latter they provide a white plastic label to stick over it, a cheap and cheesy solution. The case needs to extend to back to the wall to cover the top and sides

Good value
4 Star Review   By Matt on Home Depot - Nov 19, 2011

After reading reviews and hearing of others failing just beyond warranty, I found this one for just a few dollars more and a 5yr warranty. It had the added bonus of being designed to work with almost any hvac design, and 7-day individual program capability. I've had this for about 6mos and it's been working great. Make sure you keep track of your user manual, as you might want to make minor adjustments in the future. Programing steps are not intuitive, but fairly easy to setup by following the manual.

1 Star Review   By Ronald on Home Depot - Nov 10, 2011

Not bad
4 Star Review   By shelby on Home Depot - Oct 8, 2011

The first one that we bought was defective. We spent hours trying to get it to work before my husband would call the 1-800# to find out that's what was wrong. Went back to HD the next day and bought another one, and it works pretty well. It was really easy to install-our wires were actually correctly color coded for the spot it connected to, so we didn't need the stickers. The second package didn't have any directions or anything inside, and the "simple" function doesn't seem to work, but we're ok with that. The thermostat seems to work pretty well so far, but we haven't had any extreme weather yet. I would recommend this product.

5 Star Review   By Jennifer on Home Depot - Oct 4, 2011

My husband installed two of these for my business, and it took him approximately 30 minutes. I chose these because of the daily programming capability and the four change options during the day. For $40, NO ONE can go wrong with this thermostat!

Works like a charm
4 Star Review   By lotechguy on Home Depot - Aug 22, 2011

I just replaced a mechanical thermostat with the 3m-22 with good results. My system had 7 wires and there were no exact wiring diagrams for my system. However using the instructions on page 24 I successfully wired the thermostat using 6 of the 7. Be sure to label the wires as instructed or you will have big problems. Also there is information available on you tube that is helpful for programing. The thermostat can be run in manual mode simply by pressing the hold button when selecting the temp you want to maintain. That will allow your system to maintain a constant temperature until it is reset. When the back light is on the settings are easy to read. The displays screen shows temp as well as the set temp and time. The thermostat monitors filter life and battery life as well. The 3m-22 is a good thermostat.in my opinion if it has durability. Time will tell about that.

Great features - inaccurate thermostat
1 Star Review   By irrelevant on Home Depot - Aug 6, 2011

I have been throwing money down the drain all summer with this thermostat. Next month will tell how much, but I couldn't stand it running ALL the time, so I went and bought a basic 5-2 Honeywell thermostat. But, being who I am, I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy so I taped the new Honeywell thermostat to the wall next to it and over the first hour I found the following at various time intervals: Filtrete: 78 Honeywell: 78 Filtrete: 78 Honeywell: 77 Filtrete: 78 Honeywell: 76 Filtrete: 78 Honeywell: 75 Filtrete: 78 Honeywell: 76 Filtrete: 78 Honeywell: 77 Filtrete: 78 Honeywell: 78 Filtrete: 78 Honeywell: 79 Filtrete: 78.5 Honeywell: 79 That all took place in the first hour and 3 minutes. Finally the Filtrete kicked on, but we will see what happens over the next few hours. Bottom line - there have been times when the Filtrete read 84 degrees and my wife is sitting in the same room with a blanket on because it is so cold. Don't be fooled by the price and cool features. Figure out what is most important: - Temperature control or Features? - Temperature Contral and Features or Temperature Control and Price? Once you answer those two questions I am sure you will pick the right product. Note, I paid the same price for my Honeywell ($39) - but at HD's largest competitor. Ironically, I didn't give up any features because I have a modern Central Air system. If you have Baseboard heat or a heat pump you will pay more, but otherwise....same price. I had pics of it....but HD has pixel requirements.

Looks cool and cheap, but bad side finish.
2 Star Review   By lambition on Home Depot - Jun 14, 2011

First of all, the picture shown at home depot website is outdated. New model does not have cover over buttons and buttons look very different. Check picture from their website. I want to give link to it, but home depot rejected my review for wiring URL. At first impression this thermostat looked cool with blue back-light. However, having so many buttons exposed make it look very complicated. Also, sides do not have cover and you can see a deep voids on each side of thermostat. It looks very ugly from sides. On the top, you can actually see wires entering thermostat because there is nothing covering it.

Works Great
5 Star Review   By MrRickK on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2011

The thermostat works great. While it took a few minutes to figure out how to program it once that was done no problems. I liked that they included a screwdriver the correct size to attach the wires to their tiny little posts as well as mounting screws & wall anchors for attaching it to sheetrick. While I only needed it for a furnace so used two wires it was nice to know that it would work a central air unit as well as a heat pump should I ever decide to add those to my house in the future.

Excellent product
5 Star Review   By vq35power on Home Depot - Mar 15, 2011

Factors for 5 star rating: -Easy to follow, clear instructions -Comes with very nice labels that I used before removing the wires. This is something that I did not think about, but 3M thought of it for me :) -For the price and features this unit has, it cannot be beat. I checked bidding sites, local listings, and competitors. You can do your research so that you will feel as good as I do after purchasing and installing this unit!!! -Works with various different setups, including Heat Pump w/Aux and Emer Heat -The unit looks better than what is shown in the picture on this website (3/15/11) -Even though this is 7-day programmable, my use is really 5-1-1. I thought it was going to be a pain entering in all the schedules but there is a "COPY" button on the unit that will copy the settings onto the day following your selection -This should really say it's 7+1 programmable... Has a vacation mode setting that also has the option for morn, day, eve & night -Energy save button is a awesome! Whenever I'm going out for a few hours, I just hit the button and it automatically reduces the scheduled temperature by 5F -It has a quick button to switch between C and F right on the front. No need to open up panels and mess with any jumpers -LCD has a cool feel to it -If you are not a techie person and don't want all the details, you can switch the screen to "simple" mode that will just display the temperature -The unit I got takes 3 AA batteries. I'm thankful that it did not use CR2025 or one of those fancy digital camera batteries. This way I can easily use my rechargeable batteries -To the person below whose unit died after a year... FYI, it has a 5-year warranty from home depot. Don't need to buy a new one. This is why I purchased this unit because others, ie honeywell only has 1 yr warranty. Tip: If you have B, O and C wires, O -> O, B -> C, tape off C and don't use it for this model (This is in the instructions but I thought I'd post it here just in case)

Good Value
5 Star Review   By shawman on Home Depot - Feb 21, 2011

Don't let the one star reviews for this thermostat scare you from buying this unit. As you probably already know, most people can't read directions. This unit comes with a help line in case you need help. The directions are very straight forward and I had no trouble installing this unit. I replaced a Honeywell 5-1-1 programmable thermostat with this unit. I bought this because it was $10 cheaper than a comparable Honeywell unit. I had no trouble hooking up the wires, or covering up the hole where the wires come out of the wall. The battery compartment is in the front, under the display, which is extremely convenient IMO. There is no separate mounting base that snaps off the main unit, so it is a little difficult mounting the thermostat to the wall. Other than that, this thermostat was easy to install and functions flawlessly.

Good thermostat if ...
4 Star Review   By HopeMyReviewHelps on Home Depot - Feb 18, 2011

My old Honeywell needs replacing and immediately I went for another Honeywell thermostat. Tried 3 different 5+1+1 & 7 days programmable thermostat but none worked. Bought a 3M22 for its price (features are like Honeywell RTH64000D but without auto switch over cool/heat) and it worked. As opposed to those Honeywell models I tried, the 3M22 display screen works and the heat/cool and fan work too. The flaw about 3M22 is not the awkward dry cells placement, it's the fact that it does not fully cover the hole in the wall. The instruction booklet says it will, but that's only if you're going to look at it from the front and ignore the hole in side views. 3M should have designed a front load 2-battery tray for both sides, and the hole in the wall will be covered..The 3M22 is a good thermostat, but I'll have to return it.

WiFi + Thermometer = Marriage Made in Heaven!
5 Star Review   By OkieTechGuy on Home Depot - Jan 29, 2011

One day I was sitting in my office at work and the thought suddenly occurred to me, “Wouldn’t it be cool if you could control your thermostat via your home wifi network?” Here’s why that’s cool: Even though programmable thermostats are great there’s always occasions when you want to over ride a setting – which means of course you have to get up off your lazy butt to do so. This purchase is also coming on the heels of a 75 degree Sunday here in good ole’ Oklahoma but with a major snowstorm in the forecast by Tuesday! As one of our famous sons used to say, “If you don’t like the weather in Oklahoma, just wait a minute….” Point being, a programmable thermostat doesn’t know how to deal with such meteorological mood swings. If you’re getting older as I am? Sometimes even the best digital displays are getting harder to read as well. It would be much easier to do so from a remotely connected computer screen. Then there’s the teenagers that monkey with the inconveniently accessible thermostat upstairs – wasting your energy dollars instead of shedding or putting on a few extra clothes. Or the occasion the family is on a trip and you really don’t know when you’ll be home – but wouldn’t it be nice to set the thermostat just before you get there? Finally, it’s just the green thing to do as well, having such fine tuned control of your heating and cooling anywhere you have an internet connection not to mention the bucks you save not running the AC or heat when you don’t need it. A few minutes after that wishful thinking I Googled and found the Filtrete 3M50 at Home Depot. Even better, I was pleasantly surprised the unit had a free Iphone interface too! HUGE bonus. (Android version is rumored to be coming soon though I would imagine that if you have web access you could control the thermostat through the web portal.) I immediately jumped in the car and drove to the local Home Depot to pick up the thermostat. First notation: Beware the fine print about the needed “C” wire in order for the Wifi features to work – which is why you are buying this thermostat in the first place. When I arrived home my wife and I were disappointed to apparently discover we didn’t have the requisite “C” wire in our relatively new 12 year old home. So what’s the plan? YouTube of course! After watching several instructional videos that apparently told how to use the ground wire as your “C” wire we left confused after trying to figure out what’s what in the furnace closet end of things. As a result, the old thermostat was reinstalled and the 3M50 sat pouting on the counter for about a week. I decided to call a local heating and cooling outfit for help. They came through in spades even though I had stupidly not thought that the needed “C” (blue in our case) was, in fact, stuck back in the wall behind the thermostat plate. However, even IF I had discovered the wire, the other end in the furnace closet wasn’t connected and I hadn’t the foggiest idea what to do with it. Turned out Mr. HVAC serviceman did and showed what bundle of existing wires to stick the skinny blue wire into one of those orange screw cap things(computer guy here – not an electrician – so I don’t know the term). If your system is similar to mine? Look for a bundle of two other blue wires and stick the skinny blue one in there with it. But my advice? Get help from someone who knows what they are doing in HVAC. You’ll be glad you did. Mr. HVAC also noted it was important not only to turn off power through the circuit breaker box in the garage – which apparently controls the outside units - but ALSO the light switch next to the furnace in the garage as well. I figured the circuit breakers out in the garage took care of that. Oops. We hadn’t done so before when installing previous programmable thermostats. Which I’m guessing is dangerous, stupid, or both. Lucky we didn’t fry them or us. Nothing like an expert to help out. So for a $69 service call I was back in business and not electrocuted. His advice was further invaluable because we have a two story home and if the 3M50 worked well downstairs? I planned to replace the upstairs thermostat too - where the energy gulping teenagers were. By the way….don’t be confused by the addition of the “C” wire in the installation instructions. It is apparently NOT included as part of the wire count in the instructions in identifying whether or not you have a 4, 5 or whatever wire system. So I got the thermostat all wired up and began the process of connecting it to our home network. That step was pretty easy – but then I’m a computer guy too. Don’t lose the little slip of paper that tells you where to go for downloading instructions on setting up the wifi portion of the thermostat and also don’t forget to insert the wifi module into the unit before securing it to the wall. You can insert it after it’s mounted but it might be a little more difficult to do so. Another heads up: It’s helpful if you have a laptop or netbook to perform the wifi connection steps since you can observe indicator lights and activity on the thermostat during the connection process. Or if you are doing so from a desktop? Grab a buddy to watch what’s occurring on the thermostat. Setup essentially consists of creating a temporary (ad hoc?) network with the thermostat and your laptop. Once that’s established, you connect to the thermostat then connect it to your home network as you would any other wifi device – with your home network wifi password. Final step is registering the device on the web through an account you setup at the Radiothermostat / Filtrete site. Took all of 15 minutes from start to finish and I had access to thermostat controls and programming from any computer and from my Iphone. Excellent. Just what the doctor ordered. The second installation of the unit upstairs was a little more complicated. Part stupidity again (I’ll outline here so you can avoid the same) and part monkeying with the wifi router. Here’s the stupid part. I got everything wired up as Mr. HVAC outlined…but uh oh….no power to the thermostat. What’s up? Rechecked wires and all connections. Circuit breakers on as well as the power switch on the wall too. Nothing doing. So I went downstairs to the furnace closet to double check that I had indeed remembered the wiring correctly. It was an exact duplicate of what I’d done upstairs. I replaced the cover for the furnace and as I did it dawned on me what the problem was upstairs. There’s a safety switch that cuts the power if the cover to the furnace is off. I hadn’t yet replaced that cover upstairs yet. DOH! Once I did, everything powered up just fine to the upstairs 3M50. Apparently the wireless module for the thermostat is a “G” unit. Don’t know why I think that but it seems I read it somewhere on the unit itself or elsewhere on the web. So the signal to the upstairs thermostat was a little weak. Since it’s modular? Maybe they’ll allow for upgrades to a more powerful “N” unit in the future. I played around with the antennas on the wifi router located downstairs and was able to establish a strong enough connection to the thermostat to complete the setup process. A couple of thermostat resets later? We were good to go. Now we had complete control over our large homes (3800 sq.ft) HVAC system via the web or our Iphones. Superb. The web interface is simple, but powerful and consists of a GUI that duplicates essential functions on the physical thermostat itself. Click up/down triangles to override programmed temperatures, adjust fan functions, HVAC mode, and so on. Response time from programming the unit wirelessly to actual execution through the thermostat itself is fast…in under 30 seconds I’d say. Return to the previous screen, click “Edit Program” button and you’ll have access to all the scheduled settings for the thermostat as well. You can also add programs here, and go through a programming wizard as well – two buttons I haven’t played with yet. Back to the main thermostat “manage devices” screen. A “Settings” button lets you conveniently name your thermostats so that you can identify both easily when controlling them over the web. The physical interface is probably pretty typical for other touch screen thermostats these days. Though I quickly found the ease of use in programming the unit better than both the older Honeywell and Hunter thermostats the Filtretes replaced. Then again, I might be simply biased because of my impressions of most of the time not even being bothered by the physical interface at all and doing the same through one of the dozens of web interfaces in our home - laptops, desktop computers, home theatre PCs, or our Iphones. Speaking of Iphones, the free app that controls the thermostats is excellent – though not as powerful or full-featured as the web interface is. I don’t see any way to adjust scheduled programming there, but I suppose if you fired up Safari or other browser on your phone you could. It’s nice to have large, full screen, touch and slide friendly controls through the Iphone interface. At $99? The Filtrete 3M50 is a steal and I’m convinced the energy saving costs alone through the just-in-time fine tuning will pay for the difference in what we didn’t save through normal programmable thermostats. Especially here in Oklahoma. Time for me to ditch my Bermuda shorts and go find some snowshoes.

This thermostat claims to work with any unit but will not. I have a heatpump with aux heat and this thermostat makes the unit run on just aux. this will eat electricity!

Well while it worked...
2 Star Review   By LiLbitChilly on Home Depot - Dec 5, 2010

When this thermostat worked, it worked well. Easy to install and easy to program. That being said, it only worked for 1 year. Woke up on Dec 5th to a house that was in the lower 50's. After taking a look a the furnace and testing the wires I discovered the problem was the termostat itself. It's possible that I just had bad luck with the model that I purchased and others don't fail so soon. I'm not taking the chance, however, by ordering another one. Living in New England I need to make sure that my heat comes on when it's supposed to so my pipes don't freeze mid winter.

First to work with my system

This is the first replacement thermostat to really work with my Heat Pump/ Gas heat. I tried a Honeywell for twice the price... sort of worked... this 3M thermostat works as advertised.

Filtrete Programmable Thermostat
1 Star Review   By misterj on Home Depot - Nov 1, 2010

Thermostat maybe good but trying to get to a service technician for questions is impossible. The only way to contact a technician is by phone. I was instructed to leave a message and they would get back to me. They never did. Said the heck with this and returned the thermostat to home depot for a refund.

Good value and works well.
4 Star Review   Home Depot

I purchased three 3M Filtrete 7 Day Programmable Digital Thermostats to replace the manual thermostats that operate different zones for radiant floor heating in my house, so I only needed to use them as a 2 wire heat only application. They are capable of much more. I took a chance on these thermostats, as I could find no reviews of the product anywhere. They were $10 less each than the highly rated LUX TX9000TS. I am very satisfied with the product and plan to buy more to replace my remaining thermostats. I rated them 4 stars instead of 5 stars only because of the housing and mounting hardware (more on that later), otherwise they are great. The installation instructions were clear and installing them was a snap. Programming the thermostats was also easy and again, the instructions were clear. I wanted 7 day programmable thermostats because of my irregular work schedule. It took very little time to program the thermostats. By the time I installed and programmed the third thermostat, I was a pro at it. I especially liked the copy function. I was skeptical that is would be easy to use, but it was. I had no trouble copying one day to the next when I wanted to use the same heating schedule. Of course we have cold winters in Wisconsin, and I am happy that my master bath will now only be heated for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening instead of 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I am also happy that the temperature in other parts of the house will be setback during non use periods. I recommend this thermostat. The only negatives I have, as previously mentioned are the housing and the mounting hardware. Although the housing is fine, it seems a little substandard. I had trouble fitting one of the covers onto one of the three thermostats, but eventually, I was able to attach it. Each thermostat comes with four screws and four drywall mounts. The drywall mounts are the smaller ones. The screws also are very thin and I bent one of them during the installation. I tried to replace it with a thicker screw that I had on hand, but the head of the replacement screw was too large to fit into the mounting bracket. I would not let these minor faults deter anyone from purchasing the 3M Filtrete 7 Day Programmable Digital Thermostat though. I think it is a great buy and a good product. One last thought: I think it would be nice if the required drill bits were included, one for the drywall mounts and one for the screws if mounted directly into wood.
