Very disappointed
1 Star Review   By Rhonda on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2013

This is the 3rd year we have had this unit and now it doesn't work. Only blows out warm air. We have the settings set right and have cleaned and made sure when storing it, it was covered. For the price I truly thought this unit would last longer. The unit we had before lasted us 10 years. We are very disappointed in this Window Unit!!!!

Awsome purchas
5 Star Review   By NYCdweller on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

I've got a pretty long apartment in the city and the unit does a great job at cooling the space. I love the energy saver mode which shuts down the unit and blower once the temperature set has been reached. Overall the unit is very quiet and does a great job of removing moisture & cooling in this muggy city.

Product does not cool
1 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

Received the LW1012ER window A/C on April 26, 2013. Turned on for the first time today, May 21, 2013. The unit is blowing hot air, 80 degrees. The compressor is not coming on. Called LG support and reported the problem. I am waiting to hear from the repairmen, I was told to call for this area. DL

Love this window A/C
5 Star Review   By FloridaRT on Home Depot - May 11, 2013

This window unit filled all my needs for a quality product, plus it was easy to install, I am 73 years old. Sure it could be quieter, but it's a window unit. Love all the features and digital controls. Yes, the remote has a limited range - BUT you can almost double that range by using an old remote trick. Just hold the remote unit under your chin, pointing at the A/C unit. Press the button you want and it works! I give it 5 stars. So glad I bought it and Hpme Depot had the lowest price. I use my central A/C to cool the house, but I like my bedroom COOL - this unit keeps me VERY comfortable.

Fantastic
5 Star Review   By gonefishin27 on Home Depot - Apr 13, 2013

WE have had our unit for 1 year. It is just the best. We use it in a lanai attached to a permanent set travel trailer which is definitely not a well sealed area and not well insulated. Being in South FL it gets very humid and hot and we are perfectly comfortable. I turn it to 72 and the fan on 2 and on Energy saver mode. Very comfy in here. I set up a fan to pull the cool air into the bedroom and down the hallway to the bath and kitchen and it cools the entire place. WE were snowbirds and 2012 was our first summer in FL. No problem. We are very happy and it is really quite quiet.

Just what I needed!!!
5 Star Review   By TLW13 on Home Depot - Feb 5, 2013

I use LG AC's for my CoolBot coolers. If you're not familiar with CoolBot just Google them. In short the CoolBot device works together with window AC's, preferably LG's. It allows the AC unit to get colder than the unit is designed for. Normally, window AC's will only go down to 60 degrees. When used with the CoolBot, you can take it down to the 30's! I have one in my walk-in cooler and it maintains a temperature of 40 degrees. They are also a LOT more efficient than the cooling compressors that come with walk-ins. These work so well I have two of them in two different coolers keeping vegetables cool to sell at market. Thanks LG and CoolBot. One more thing. I ordered this on-line because they were not in stock at the time in the store. It came in two days just like they said it would, and the delivery guys were as nice and helpful as could be. Overall, I am VERY satisfied with the whole process, I wouldn't hesitate ordering from HP again!

Very quiet and powerful
5 Star Review   By David on Home Depot - Sep 4, 2012

It is rated very well in Consumers Report and we know why. Very powerful and quiet. It has 3 fan speeds and a temperature selection range from 60-86. We bought the 10,000 BTU model and keep it set at 72 degrees. It cools a combined dining room/living room and a small office (350 sq ft) with south facing windows. It is very quiet and easy to operate with the remote. It also installed very easy. The air conditioner has a drain tube off the back which allows for drainage away from the house. When you first get it run it for a couple of hours with the windows open because it had a slight plastic/machine smell. We have had it since the middle of August 2012 after our ancient one quit. We are very happy with this purchase.

Major Disappointment
1 Star Review   By Shopaholic on Home Depot - Sep 2, 2012

We have owned this product for 3 months. The first 7 or 8 weeks it was cooling great! The only time we heard any noise was when we turned it on and off. Now, for the last month, it makes a horrible noise that is so loud and annoying we would rather suffer through the 90 degree weather. It has stopped cooling as well as it did and it basically just running up my power bill. I will be returning it to the store I bought it at and looking for a different brand, however my local stores are no longer carrying air conditioners, because the season to them, is over! Such a disappointment for and LG product!!

HUGE help in the Oklahoma Heat Wave
5 Star Review   By Stephanie on Home Depot - Aug 28, 2012

We bought this unit to aid in cooling our house during the HOT Oklahoma summers. We have central/ac but when the temps outside are above 100', the central unit can't keep the house cool. We were dealing with inside temps around 80' and that is too hot for my liking. Plus, we have lots of family over and the more people you get in the house, the stuffier it seems. Back to the LG window unit. Installation was a snap. You will need an assistant to help lift the unit into the window because it's heavy. Once you get it secured in place and plug it in, be ready to cool down in a jif! It took about 30 minutes to cool my main living room and kitchen down. I was even able to cook and bake without being miserable. I should have considered purchasing a supplemental window unit years ago!

Wonderful a/c
5 Star Review   By Joodles on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012

Very happy with this product. Keeps our room very cool. Takes only 5 minutes to feel temperature difference in room. Fits perfectly in window with minimal installation efforts. Only negative is it is a little loud.

Ease of installation, & cooling ability great.
5 Star Review   By loriderlarry on Home Depot - Aug 9, 2012

Installed in less than 1 hour, very easy. Began cooling with in 2 hours of installation. We have large open area to cool so using fans to move cool air we are able to cool almost double the sq ft stated. Cools from 80 down to 72-74 in about 3 hours. We can cool off bedrooms also just by moving fans to pull cool air down hallways. Excellent for our needs. Noise isn't more than regular fans give off doesn't interfere with anything. We didn't get the remote with this as it was missing from the box so unable to use some of the features as remote is only way to access them. Even without remote we are very happy with this product.

Strong but loud
3 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Aug 7, 2012

I've had the ac unit for about 1 month now and as of 3 days ago it began to vibrate a loose piece like mad. When the compressor clicks on it's now twice as loud as it was at first. Other than that it's a great unit, very cold air, but it does lack a good seal when the unit is off, you can feel warm air blowing in from the outside.

DOA right out of the box. Wasted 4 hours of my time.
1 Star Review   By firemanbob on Home Depot - Aug 7, 2012

After spending 2 hours getting this thing installed in my window, I plugged it in and nothing. The unit was DOA out of the box. Very poor quality in my opinion to have a unit not work at all. Back to the store (1/2 hour each way, so I'm 2 hours of travel time now). Bought a different unit and it worked fine. If you do buy this unit, make them plug it in at the store to prove it works before you bring it home.

Dependable Cooling
5 Star Review   By BLW2 on Home Depot - Aug 5, 2012

We have experienced some extremely hot days in my area and this unit has performed admirably. I keep the temperature set at 70 and the fan at it lowest speed using the "energy saving" mode and the downstairs remains comfortable. I would recommend installing the drainage valve if your area experiences constant high humidity as ours does. There is noise due to vibration but I believe this is due to to the age of the house (built in 1896) and the original windows which still have "wavy" glass. In other words, not the fault of the unit.

This A/C works fine
4 Star Review   By DanF on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

Easy to install; not too noisy; no problems so far. The first unit I installed did not work at all so I had to exchange it for another identical unit. The second unit works fine.

5 Star Review   By rcflier on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

This unit is extremely quiet and cools 600 sq ft quickly and then when turned to "low" the comfort level is maintai ned. She usually keeps it on the low setting all the time. All this in a 1920 home without insulation.

LG A/C Working as Designed
5 Star Review   By BigT on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2012

I read a lot of reviews about this a/c before deciding to purchase it. The fact is if the GE was readily available in the store instead of online only, I likely would have bought the GE. BUT, I've had the LG for several weeks now and the temps here In N.C. have constantly been 90+ degrees. This a/c has performed flawlessly and the Energy Saver function is well worth using too. My cooling bill this month was about $50.00+ less than if I had used the central a/c. This a/c is cooling a 20x15 LR, dining and kitchen as well as a hallway. We close bedroom doors and save money zone cooling. Has (3) good blower speeds too.

Excellant Air Conditioner
4 Star Review   By Lonewolf1 on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2012

This is the first air conditioner I personally purchased, this was based on a co-workers recommendation. It performed well in the 90 to 100 degree weather. It keep three rooms cool at full blast. But the install the machine was horrible..hard to put in window and keep in window. LG you need to fix install problem. We suffered the same install probelms that over reviewers faced.

Eh...
4 Star Review   By nhanna on Home Depot - Jul 18, 2012

Designed to cool a room up to 450 sq ft. Granted, our space is 480, but I'd hoped the unit would cool better than it did. During a 101 degree day, indoor temps read 83 degrees. Better than what it would have been without a unit, granted, but not quite worth $279. Home Depot charges more for less BTU than other stores for the same or better models, but at least had something in stock mid season. The side panels are completely useless. Incredibly cheap material. I had to tape cardboard to cover the panels else bugs were swarming my room and heat was leaking in. The thermostat on the unit itself is inaccurate by as much as five degrees at times, since it reads the outdoor heat seeping through the panels, and the cool air coming directly from its own vents. My thermostat on my wall reads 77, but on the unit reads 73. It's very quiet. A slight rattling which is really the internal insulating styrofoam and not a concern or a nuisance, and it's light for it's size. It was incredibly easy to install, less than ten minutes, and blew cold air immediately. Unfortunately, our circuits can't support a window unit, so it has to go back, and it wasn't sufficiently cooling the space anyway (albeit, a larger than recommended space), but it's all that was available. Less than 450 feet, it might work splendidly, assuming the room is a single open space. Our room is a living room, stair case, attached dining area and half-open kitchen (all measuring 480), so the unit had to, admittedly, work harder for us than for most. Not bad, but not competitively priced either. I can't comment on longevity since we've only had it two days and have to return it, but in a room closer to 400 sq ft than 500, I have a feeling it would have been perfect.

Works Great
5 Star Review   By FeeChow on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2012

Nice product
4 Star Review   By Laurielovescats on Home Depot - Jul 10, 2012

We purchused 2 of these units for our downstairs and I am very pleased with them. I rated a 4 on energy efficency since we have not received an electric bill yet. I thought for the price we paid they do the job, especially in this very hot summer. I gave a 3 on installation, but only because we have triple track storm windows and needed to "build" a ledge for them. On a regular window I'm sure it would be a breeze.

Leaks, Loud, energy efficient setting works poorly
2 Star Review   By Maxie on Home Depot - Jul 10, 2012

I have had the unit for less than 24 hours and will be returning it. Cooled off my 20x30 room so I thought it would be a keeper (after I switched from the energy efficient setting). Woke up to a soaking wet window sill. I've installed quite a few ACs in my time, never had this issue with a new one. Was the cheapest unit for the size of my room, will now be upgrading to a portable ac unit.

Great A/C
5 Star Review   By Lucky on Home Depot - Jul 8, 2012

Bought 2 of these A/c's. Easy to install. Cools the rooms quickly and quietly. 1 of the 2 had a rattle when the compressor ran, took it back to Home Depot, they replaced it, no problem. Runs quiet and cools quickly. Plan to buy another larger LG for kitchen, dining and living room area when our old one goes or when they go on sale. Very pleased with all of our LG products we have bought including 2 Tv's.

I Ilike the unit and its been near 100 degrees for a week and I have only had to run it to the second fan level once. I wanted the decibel level, but could not find it. I might have opted for something a little quieter, but overall pleased.

severely annoyed - Unit does not work
1 Star Review   By annoyed on Home Depot - Jul 3, 2012

bought unit two days ago...no more difficult to install than any other window unit. Unit will not work on fan speed 1 or 2; will only work on fan speed 3 which is very loud. Unit does not cool room, even when set to 60 degrees all day and night. Unit is replacing a 5000 btu, cheaper unit that actually worked 100 times better than this 10,000 btu unit! a technician is scheduled to come service unit in two days. Hope he/she is able to fix problem, otherwise i will be returning unit to exchange for a better brand...

good cooling; a bit noisier than reviews indicated
5 Star Review   By philip on Home Depot - Jun 27, 2012

easy to install; good air distribution; easy to operate. However, remote works only within ten feet or so of unit, Even on low speed fan, unit is not as quiet as I expected. It does cool quickly and effectively even though we use it in an attic room which gets very hot during the day. Auxiliary fans help a lot.

Problematic unit...LG will not make it right. Avoid.
1 Star Review   By Coppervines on Home Depot - Jun 22, 2012

Long story short...Had this unit for a year. Was leaking inside my house (was properly installed). Had 3 sets of LG technicians to my home, all said the unit was functioning properly...but I would have to tilt the unit back further than it already was (these units can only sit in a window correctly one way)...and the only way to do this would be to install it INcorrectly, which would require screwing in wood into the window frame, bringing the bottom front of the unit further in and seal the gaping holes with duct tape. LG continues to deny that there is a problem with the unit. I have 4 other units, none of them leak in any window, they are installed incorrectly, and the windows in my home are perfectly level. I spoke with a "Senior Claims Liability Manager" at LG, he was rude, insincere, and hung up on me. They offered me $100 (unit is much more than that) to pacify me after months and months of phone calls and emails to various people at their organization. 2 out of 3 of our LG major appliances have failed within a year. Spend the extra $ and buy a better brand.

52dB as specified
4 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Jun 21, 2012

Sound does measure 52dB as specified (A-weighted, fast-response at 1m on my trusty old analog meter)... this of course on the lowest fan speed which is already enough to push papers around my desk. Fan speed 2 around 57dB; 62dB at the highest speed. Some additional vibration noise from the case that goes away if I grab it. Might be related to the fact that I haven't quite completed installation yet. My window doesn't have the flat inner sill their instructions expect, so I'll have to jerry-rig some sort of inside bracket. The vent control is not what I'd expected. Instead of cooling outside air instead of inside air, it simply is a sort of plug on a stick that when you pull it out allows some of the inside air to be directed out. Took me a while to figure out that's really what they had in mind and it wasn't broken. I have a UPS powering some network equipment on the same outlet and it hasn't complained about any brownouts when the AC switches on. First day of ownership; all I can tell you so far about reliability is it wasn't DOA.

Good Quiet powerful air conditioner
5 Star Review   By Den1 on Home Depot - Jun 21, 2012

Bought this product and installed it today. It replaces my older 8000 BTU Maytag that was about 5 years old. This air conditioner is a lot more quiet running and cooled my large bedroom down in no time. Wish it was a little cheaper tho. The handle for the vent is kind of cheap, but I am just being picky I guess. Overall it is certainly a great product.

Overall A Good Choice/ Has Slide-Out Chassis
4 Star Review   By DiveGirl on Home Depot - Jun 14, 2012

Well as many of you who must use window ACs, the quality of these things gets worse and worse every year. I initially got a new one from Sears this season which was awful. Although it cooled, it was super loud and let tons of light in because the entire piece behind the fan was made of white styrofoam. I returned it and got this one which was much better. The unit does not let the light in where the cold air comes out but more importantly it is MUCH quieter. The blower is quiet on low speed but you will hear the compressor come on but it's not too bad. I don't think any of the units out there now are quiet (you need a mini-split for that which my bldg won't allow) but this one is acceptable for bedroom use. We did experience some rattling at first which we fixed by jamming excess foam around the inside of the plastic piece that covers the front of the AC. One interesting thing, that although it does not advertise nor describe it in the manual anywhere, this unit actually has a removable chassis which makes it much easier to install. We didn't realize this until after we installed it and pulled off the cover to address the rattling, but this unit is basically the same unit Sears sold about 3 years ago which is much better than their current "Cool" model.

LG Makes a Great AC Unit
5 Star Review   By HDMAN on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2012

You will like this unit it is only 60 pounds but cools large area with it very strong but quiet operation. The LG Units get high marks in a popular consumer magazine and once you own it you will realize why. Home Depot had a great Free delivery service and carried it right into the house.

So far so good.
4 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2012

Was easy to install and operate. So far is working great. Slightly louder than I anticipated, but not that bad. Cools great so far though. From start to finish took less than an hr from the time it was in the box until it was in the window cooling the room. That's only because I had to modify the window a little.

No problems here
5 Star Review   By CoolGuy on Home Depot - Jun 9, 2012

Easy installation. Comes with slideout louvars on each side that you must attach to unit with supplied screws. (4 on each side). Also comes with screws to attach L brackets to bottom of window frame and window to help hold it in as well as a strip of tape backed insulation for top and bottom of window to fill gaps/ prevent scratching. I was lucky in that it was a perfect fit for my metal window frames and only had to install the louvars. Slid louvars in place in window the used tape to seal the 1/8" gap between the louvar and window frame. The bottom of the open window against the top of unit holds mine in place. As long as no one attempts to open window it will stay in place without screws. If screws not installed then it would fall outside if no one is holding it. On some windows you may have to install a peice of wood on sill for unit to rest on. Unit is fairly quiet and remote works well as long as it is pointed directly at front and up to 45 degrees from side with no obstructions such as furniture in between. Using it to cool 2 rooms approx. 12 x 15. Good unit for the price and features.

Great Deal
4 Star Review   By Clay on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2012

I needed to replace a 9-year old 10k btu unit in an attic bedroom. The old unit worked OK, but required annual cleaning ("hosing out") and weighed 90 lbs. The new LG unit has pretty much the same specs, energy rating, etc and only weighs 62 lbs. Installation was easy, seems to work well (no real hot days yet). Only negative is the flimsy controls for the louvers and the vent for inside/outside air...time will tell how these hold up. Otherwise, with the free delivery, this was a great buy!

Solid construction, cools quickly
4 Star Review   By Butch on Home Depot - May 28, 2012

To those who complained about the noise level, the spec's clearly state 52-58 decibels. Normal conversation is between 50-65 decibels, so if you were looking for whisper quiet, shell out the $300 more for a quieter model. I will say this Energy Star model is replacing an older A/C unit and will save me more money even tho its almost 2x the BTU's. Remote is nice, control panel is nice. I looked at the competitors models and found this one to be the best made, best value. Its nice that it comes with an install kit (foam, etc), not all do.

NOISY!!!!
2 Star Review   By noisy on Home Depot - May 23, 2012

This unit cools well but is the noisiest a/c i have ever had! No matter what I do it rattles and vibrates. It is so loud it drives me crazy. Even though it works I plan on throwing it away and replacing it with another brand.

Just right for our application.

This A/C is the right size for our room. Multiple fan speeds are a plus. It's nice to have a remote to change settings without getting out of bed.

Unit controls defective out of the box - returned
1 Star Review   By nolgfan on Home Depot - May 4, 2012

Really disappointed - found out that the controls on the unit did not function right out of the box. The remote worked for most functions (no variance in fan speed), but that was it. Of course didn't realize this until after attaching side louvers and placing in window. Wrote LG an email and they responded right away that the unit should respond to the unit's own controls (No other steps for it to work). Returned the next day, back to Mayfield Heights store. Kudos to service desk staff though - return was very easy. Just a pain in the rear to have to rebox and return..

installation would be quicker if it had a slide out chassiss. other than that installation was ok. air deflectors should have a grater range of movement.

Small Power House
4 Star Review   By weld387 on Home Depot - Mar 18, 2012

This LG 10,000 BTU window unit works very well in my upstairs bedroom. It will pay for itself this summer with the savings on my power bill. In the evenings when I go too sleep, I shut down my central air. Only cooling my bedroom for a comfortable nights sleep. This air conditioner has some noise when the condenser kicks in. The noise is nothing compared to the window unit it's replaced. On the high setting it will turn my room into a fridge. The middle setting is more then sufficent to cool my 18X25 room. Over the last two years I have focused on things around my home that will save me money. I installed a cable attic fan in the roof. Roofed my home with White 30yr Energystar rated shingles. My power bills where $180.00 a month in the summer. Now they are $82.00 a month during the summer. The numbers tell the truth. It feels nice that I am saving $100.00 a month. Summers in Georgia can be brutal. They don't have to hit your wallet if you make some easy changes.
