I absolutely love this mixer!
5 Star Review   By Valima on Home Depot - Oct 4, 2011

I had a KitchenAid 4 1/2 qt / 250 watt mixer for 16 years. Unfortunately after daily use, I burned out the engine. Since I found purchasing a new one was better for me personally than repairing my old, I choose to buy the 5 qt / 325 watt mixer as a replacement, and for the extra power that I obviously need in my kitchen. This mixer, although it is a little expensive, and on the heavy side (20 pounds +), it is extremely usefull for all your cooking and baking needs. I highly recommend the grinder attachment as well, for it's perfect to have in the late summer for all the canning I do. It is so much easier (and so much faster) to grind up all the ingredients for sauce and jams as compared to chopping everything up into little bits by hand. All of the attachments and accesories come off or apart easily, and they're simple to hand wash or wash in the dishwasher. I love the KitchenAid product line so much that I also own their food processor and hand mixer.

A solid performer
4 Star Review   By member tbyeoh - Apr 29, 2008

Strengths: Powerful, steady footprint, consistent mixes.

Weakness: Noisy

This mixer has 10 speeds and comes with various attachments for mixing or beating. If mixes have a moderate amount of moisture, the beating tool works fine. However, for relatively dry mixes such as high flour content or bread mixes, my favorite is the flat attachment which is actually made of ceramic and looks like a flat triangular frame with some lines running through. I usually start off with a slow speed (one, two or three) for a few minutes and gradually ratchet it up. I have found that makes a really good mix. Another comment I have is that the unit is really, really heavy. I think this is purposely weighted as such so that when it does run full speed, it does not wobble and shake and perhaps even tap dance across the surface. It is a piece of appliance you want to find a permanent spot for and not move it around too much. One point to note is that at higher speeds it can be very noisy such that normal conversation is difficult.

A money saving tip ....
5 Star Review   By member Rhianyn - Mar 20, 2008

Strengths: Power and ease

Weakness: A tad heavy, but I don't know how you could get this much power any lighter.

KitchenAid has an Ebay store where they sell refurbished and many new items. I have wanted one of these mixers _forever_, but the price was just to prohibitive. Through the Ebay store I got a brand new mixer in discontinued color (plum) with 1 year warranty (I think the refurbished ones have month warranty) for $175 + $30 shipping. Plus I had a $10 coupon from Ebay and found a $30 rebate, so for $165 I have the mixer of my dreams and I'm loving it. It's everything I thought it would be. It makes my multiple batches of cookies and shortbread for easter, christmas, birthday, valentine, etc sending a snap. Halves the time I used to spend doing this.

Artisan results everytime...
3 Star Review   By member Anonymous - Jan 22, 2008

Strengths: Tilt-head, powerful motor, locking bowl design, portable.

Weakness: Limited capacity for larger jobs (expected), and plastic gear-housing!

For small jobs, this mixer is great! Cookies, cakes, and various other desserts you'll bake with ease. If you're a bread-baker, you may want to upgrade into the Professional model (which I also have and reviewed) as this one's motor can overheat with constant use. There's also the plastic gear-housing. Sure, the gears are metal, but the housing can crack due to heat and or other stresses thus rendering the metal gears useless... poor design KitchenAid. For that reason alone, I cannot give this item anymore then three stars.

Heavy Duty Workhorse U Leave on the CounterTop
5 Star Review   By member honeywest - Oct 24, 2007

Strengths: Heavy, Solid Kitchen Tool-Easy Exchange if it ceases to Function w/in a Year

Weakness: Heavy if you Have to Move it Around. Plastic Cover that holds metal gears in place.

I bought another from Kitchenaid showing I do like and trust this product/name. What I don't like is (and maybe they have redesigned by now, (Oct 2007) I don't know) the metal gears inside are held in their place by a plastic cover! This is/was true with the Professional 6 Quart Series as well as the Artisan 5 Quart. If anything is going to mess up, it will be in this area. Kitchenaid is quick to exchange with a new and pickup the broken if it's within a year. Just a heads up. Otherwise, solid. I still give 5 Stars....One may just be a little dim....*

Excellent Mixer!
5 Star Review   By member geotuna - Aug 31, 2006

Strengths: Powerful.

Weakness: None.

This KitchenAid mixer is an excellent investment! I just love mine! The dough hook attachment is the greatest invention ever. No more kneading! I used this wonderful machine to make 4 pounds of Pizza Geina dough without breaking a sweat. Add your ingredients, turn it on and it does the rest! It has a very powerful motor and every part of this mixer is excellent quality and well made. It is simple to lock in the mixing bowl and it is also a breeze to clean. The different attachments are very easy to attach and remove. It would be impossible not to love it! Did I mention how easy the clean up is? I love it so much! Once you use a KitchenAid you will never want other brands. It makes the best mixers!

Very good mixer
5 Star Review   By member hellohan - Apr 9, 2006

Strengths: Fast, convenient and easy clean.

Weakness: Sometime the bowl is hard to be removed.

My wife likes this mixer very much. She was encouraged by this powerful machine. We have home-made pasta, pizza and pie everyday. Especially, it can also make oriental food, such as steam buns, dumplings and many more.

KitchenAid is the best quality
5 Star Review   By member Clu - Dec 30, 2005

Strengths: Powerful, durable, looks good

Weakness: Too heavy

We bought this product since we always believe in the quality of KitchenAid. My wife has been using kitchenAid manual mixer for a while. However, it takes a lot of patience to stir up the egg white. With the stand mixer, she no longer need to stand all the way to hold the mixer and she is extremly happy. This machine is really a life saver and we decide to buy the pasta add-on. We will see how it goes. Overall, this is a great buy and the investment really worth it.

5 Star Review   By member nanawag - May 23, 2005

Strengths: This is a beautiful machine - (I purchased the chrome one). It works wonderfully. While some say it is too loud, I don't find the sound level objectionable.

Weakness: It is heavy. I have the counter space to let it set out, which I think is a must unless you have a strong arm around to help you set it up.

This is not a toy. It is a serious piece of equipment that can be useful for so many things. This week was the first of many bake sales I am to participate in, and it helped me expedite the preparation of the cakes, pies, and cookies. I am familiar with fine machinery, and this is well made. It is nothing like the flimsy hand held types or cheaper stand mixers. I could have bought it for $50 less if I had wanted white, but I decided to get something that would look modern and match my kitchen. Thus the chrome. I'm a happy camper!

5 Star Review   By member buzybee - Apr 23, 2004

Strengths: Durable and dependable, a must-have for all home cooks!

Weakness: Absolutely none.

KitchenAid is well-known for its stand mixers. They are made of the highest quality and craftsmanship. Having an electric stand mixer will save you so much time and effort in mixing heavy dough, and other baking tasks. You can set the KitchenAid to stir, and you just add the ingredients, instead of constantly having to stop to stir. This can make cooking and baking so much simpler, and more enjoyable. The Kitchenaid Artisan stand mixer has a powerful 325 watt motor that supplies constant power even when mixing heavy cookie dough. This countertop appliance comes with 10 speeds, which allow you to do everything from stirring to whipping. Kitchenaid mixers come with a dough hook, wire whip and burnished flat beater. The dough hook is used for breads, buns, rolls, and coffee cakes where as the wire whip can be used for whipping eggs, heavy cream, sponge cakes and angle cakes. The flat beater is used for all other mixing jobs including cookies, biscuits, cakes, pastries, mashed potatoes, and quick breads. I can't live without my KitchenAid. Start with the best and you will never have to buy another stand mixer.
