Keurig Platinum
3.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Mar 23, 2011

The Keurig Platinum is a single-cup home coffee maker designed strictly for households. Released as an upgrade from the Elite, the Keurig Platinum accommodates five cup sizes—4oz, 6oz, 8oz, 10oz and 12oz—and includes a much larger 60z water resourcour so the unit need only be filled literally once per day. Also featured is an advanced control panel with a blue backlit display and multiple buttons with fully programmable options. Signature though is Quiet-Brew technology that ensures the production of hot coffee without interfering in household activities. Critics especially like that the Platinum model incorporates every cup size, not to mention that it incorporates multiple settings, a stylish design and a durable frame. They have complained however that its difficult to clean and at times unreliable. Features Single-Cup Home Coffee Maker Designed for Households Quiet Brew Technology Extra-Large Removable Water Reservoir Five Total Cup Sizes Iced Beverage Setting Blue Backlit Display Fully ... PROS: (1) very easy to use, just a few button presses to all functions (2) accommodates a cup of almost any size (3) lots of settings for different volumes and brew strengths (4) stylish and sleek design, good combination of stainless steel and black plastic (5) components last a long time without wearing out ... CONS: (1) makes a fair amount of noise throughout the brewing process (2) difficult to clean, lots of parts that get dirty and cant just be stuck in a sink

4 Star Review   By Sheev on Home Depot - Mar 19, 2013

I love my coffee/tea/hot chocolate maker. I have had family here for a week and the ability for everyone, adults and kids alike, to brew what they wanted was great. Once the slight plastic taste was gone after about 10 brews, the taste was wonderful too. It is easy to use, the ability to pick cup size is very useful, and the ease of use when refilling the water reservoir was great too. The auto shut-off saves a lot of power.

Good System
4 Star Review   By member digge39 - Jul 15, 2012

Strengths: Speed, No Waste, Great Varity of Coffee

Weakness: Only had one glitch due to not descaling

I own two Platnum 70's. My first was purchased about Four years ago and the second three years ago. I use filtered water in both (different locations) but the older one has had its share of regular tap water through it and I didn't do a descale which caused the problem. DO NOT wait for the descale message, just make it a point to do so about once a month. After descaling three times it is working fine again. Keurig was great when I contacted their support line. It is a high cost when you think of the initial money but if you drink coffee and , like me, want a cup whenever without making a whole or half pot and throw the rest out it evens out. Coffee brands are very consistant. My wife is a "Breakfast Blend" and I am the "Bold" varity. We both, within minutes, get what we want without brewing two pots.

Sady disappointed :-(
1 Star Review   By member weird1s - Apr 29, 2012

Strengths: Works GREAT for 3 months!!

Weakness: Starts havinging de-scaling & filling issues. Cust services can't help except send you to their website to try & problem solve yourself or walk you through a temp fix OR up-se

I am a passionate, honest, sincere and diligent consumer and maven. I do my due diligence when making my purchases and buy the best keeping in mind the product as well as how the manufacturer stands behind their products. PLEASE do NOT purchase this product based on NUMEROUS product reviews INCLUDING mine. I experienced what so many others did thinking that there were always a few bad machines but as a whole the unit was probably wonderful. The machine works great for a few months, THEN that is when you the consumer begin the awful experience of "trouble shooting" from their website, You Tube, etc. When you open the box, the statement from the manufacturer should be THE sign to return the unit immediately! It tells you to KEEP the box and shipping material should you have to return AND do not return to place of purchase but contact Keurig direct. I did this. Then when I finally had enough of "trouble shooting" I was told I could get the most recent model for $80.00 more OR take it back to where I purchased it. I am a realist and do not expect perfection; however, I do expect a product to work without problems for at least a year with no problems, not 3 months. The customer service reps are good but their hands are tied. The corporate office is responsible for POOR options available to offer their customers. DO NOT BUY the potentially great product for your own sanity and pocket book. Shame on you Keurig corporate!

Great until it dies right after warrenty expires!
2 Star Review

Strengths: Variety of brews - easy to use - fast - not a bad price per cup.

Weakness: Dies after 12 plus months no matter how you treat it.

Beware. The warnings as to this dying are true. We did everything we were instructed and after 14 months the brewer started acting up and finally died within days. Hey Keurig, would it kill you to upgrade the pump. A great concept in search of a quality manufacturer.

I love being able to have a single cup of coffee when ever I want it. The ice tea is great also. Trying to talk my boss in getting one for work.

Great at first but then...
1 Star Review   By member acohen365 - Oct 17, 2011

Strengths: varied flavors, good temperature

Weakness: It only worked the first year. Lost more money using k-cups and unit not working right (never filled enough water). Only uses arabica beans in the k-cups

You need not waste your money on this garbage. Over $.50per cup when it works (I calculated that I spent about $.75 per 8 oz.) After one year, you can throw it away since the warrantee is over and the water stops pumping the correct amount of water ALWAYS! Going back to drip brew.

Very disappointing!
1 Star Review   By member angelori123 - Aug 18, 2011

Strengths: Worked well for a few months.

Weakness: Stopped working!

Like others, we were delighted with our brewer initially. When it stopped working, we were told the pump had broken, presumably because we hadn't descaled the brewer. Since we were using only filtered water, and because the warning light had never come on (defective?), we were not aware that such a problem existed. It is difficult to know exactly how much the brewer has been used, because, although we bought it two years ago, we have been away from home for several months at a time. If you like your brewer, beware! And descale!

Still love everrthing about the Keurig
3 Star Review

Strengths: quick brew time, convenience, easy clean up.

Weakness: simply doesn't brew more than a partial cup without much fuss. Costs can be a lot, but i knew that going in to the original purchase.

B70 Platinum Series: I want another unit but I'm disheartened about the issues it has. After a short two - three months it simply doesn't brew more than a partial cup without much fuss. We clean it at least once a week and always clean it if we use any specialty type cup such as hot chocolate or latte. Sooo, it's becoming a love it but it's starting to become a real pain... Now I need to see what Keurig will do to fix the issue..

Love the convenience--but
1 Star Review   By member lee15 - Jun 2, 2010

Strengths: Fast. Easy. Hot. Great for two people who don't want to waste a whole pot.

Weakness: Defective machines. Finding coffee with enough body is difficult. Expensive.

We are on our second machine since 12/26/09. The first one stopped working on 3/26/10. It began brewing only a partial cup. It happened at first sporadically, then consistently, and then stopped working altogether. Keurig replaced it quickly. The replacement we've had for just over two months has started to do the same thing as the previous one. I expect that it will also soon fail completely. We make only two--perhaps three cups of coffee per day, use only filtered water, and descale appropriately. We love the convenience, but for around $170 it makes for very expensive coffee if the machine only lasts a month opt two. Wondering how Keurig will deal with a second defective machine.

why did i wait so long to buy this coffee brewer?!
5 Star Review   By member dreamingdog2 - May 3, 2010

Strengths: fresh, delicious coffee almost immediately; virtually no clean-up; tremendous savings over buying 2-3 cups of dunkin' doughnuts coffee/day; unlimited variety options with reusable k-cup; idiot-proof

Weakness: none!

this coffee brewer is fabulous. the coffee is hot and fresh. there are many pre-packaged varieties - something for every palate (mild to medium to bold). it came with a sample pack which included timothy's decaf. we love it! it is truly the best tasting decaf. there are some good deals online for large quantities or bed, bath, and beyond sells the decaf (same value as online with their 'coupons).' we buy ground coffee by the pound at dunkin' doughnuts (for me) and starbucks (for my sweetie). we then fill the reusable k-cups to create the strength we each like (figured the amount out after two or three tries). my sweetie calculated that each cup costs at least $2 less than buying individual cups at the store. and it is so convenient. we each are drinking a lot more coffee. we did buy an extra k-cup (2@ $15 each) because the cup is very hot and a little hot water remains after making each cup. they do cool down in several minutes, but who can wait that long for coffee anymore!

If is too good to be true it usually isn't
2 Star Review

Strengths: It has none

Weakness: A typical modern style living scam

The unit worked as advertised and promoted. Unlesss you can steal your coffee source from you employer be prepared to pay a ridiculous amount per cup of coffee compared to buying other brands in bulk. If you buy in bulk and use the K cup to save a buck be prepared to spend countless hours cleaning (or attempting to clean) each K cup prior to refilling. A horrible cheapskate approach. You will use at least two to threetimes as much coffee to make a single cup compared to a conventional maker. I sold my Keurig one week after trial and error. I bought a small single cup brewer for less than 15.00 and found it worked just as bad at one tenth the price and much less hassle using a simple filter to accomplish what the K cup is supposed to do. Bottom line - a single cup, reasonable price, convenient, good tasting coffee is a dream yet to be fulfilled. I bought the latest 12 cup version of Mr. Coffee for 24.95 with an improved pouring lip that does not leak all over the place and now make 6 cups at a time rather than the hopefull 1 cup and have enjoyed every drop of it at a phenominal savings and convenience.

good looks don't make coffee
1 Star Review

Strengths: appearance

Weakness: shuts off when IT wants to, not when it is programmed to

We are on our 3rd one and it will go back forever ! It makes the drawing water in sound, but it is not drwing in water, then it shuts off. Turn it back on, same sound, then shuts off, I have yo take out the water container, put it in gently hard, then it works, brew time 60 seconds, getting ti to stay on to make a cup 5 minutes, never will buy or reccommend one to anyone.

Platinum Series problem
1 Star Review

Strengths: Convienent

Weakness: Unit shut off and has to be turned back on. This is my Scond Platinum unit since Christmas 2009 and both units had the same problem. Must be a factory defect.

I received a Platinum unit for Christmas 2009 and it started failing and finally totally quit working 1 month later. I took it back and exchanged it for a like model. I have now had this unit since First of February and it is now March 19 and this unit is starting to fail the same way. Unit cuts off and has to be turned back on. Sometimes does not complete the brew cycle before ir cuts off. Piece of expensive junk. Keurig needs to recall the Platinum series unit.

Keurig Platinum B70
2 Star Review

Strengths: Conveinence

Weakness: Doesn t last

Purchase first B 70 7 Months ago it quit working They sent me a new one it lasted 3 weeks and it quit working. also when you call keurig wait time is 20 to 30 minutes only for them to tell you they will get back to you in 24 to 48 hours. this has been a big disappointment in a product that costs a 170.00 dollars. and in acompany that cant handle its call volume.

The Keurig does NOT measure up
1 Star Review   By member WordsmithDave - Dec 27, 2009

Strengths: Fast

Weakness: Makes terrible, weak, under-brewed coffee

The Keuring Platinum coffee maker, while attractive in appearance, clever in concept and operationally fast, makes terrible coffee. I have tried the coffee at various business establishments that use these for the convenience of their clients and have always been disappointed with the coffee quality. I thought perhaps that the reason could be that the settings were wrong or that the machines were not properly cleaned or maintained. My wife purchased a Keurig Platinum brewer for me for Christmas. Being a big fan of Green Mountain coffee, which is included with the sample varieties, I was excited to give it a whirl. I followed the instructions exactly, filled the reservoir with filtered water and tried my first cup. I was surprised how quickly the machine was "ready to brew". Almost immediately I knew something was wrong. Good coffee has a deep, rich fragrance while it is brewing. This did not. My first cup, which was brewed on the "large" cup setting, was horribly weak. I dumped that out and tried a smaller cup setting with a different variety of coffee. Same weak, under-brewed taste. I tried increasing the temperature, trying bolder varieties, using my own freshly ground beans, etc, to no avail. My wife tried it on her own the next day; same results. If you have ever spent time in Europe (I have spent quite of bit of time in France), many coffee makers are of the single cup variety. However, the coffee that is used in these machines are generally very finely ground, dark varieties such as espresso or French Roast. American-style coffee tends to be a milder, coarser grind and needs to brew longer, allowing the water more time pass over the coffee, releasing the oils, flavor and fragrance. Keurig has a great idea with this machine and the single cup. However, it cannot overcome the basic physics involved with making good American-style coffee. The other problem is the K-Cups- let's face it, the coffee is not fresh. Nothing can replace freshly ground beans. Keurig needs to go back to the drawing board. Life is too short for bad coffee. We are returning our Keurig and going back to our Cuisinart and freshly ground 8-O'Clock coffee beans.

5 Star Review   By member poetrypower - Nov 4, 2009

Strengths: great-tasting coffee, easy clean-up, quick brewing

I desperately need caffeine to stay awake at my boring job all day, but I am pretty lazy, so I was relying on canned colas and buying coffee from coffee shops. I got the Green Mountain coffee catalog in the mail and saw this brewer, and I thought it would be the perfect solution. It makes delicious coffee and tea. There is a huge selection of k-cups (coffees, teas, even Chai and mocha). I love the removable water tank on the machine -- I take it to the water fountain and fill it. It's so great to only have a coffee mug to wash every day instead of a big pot like on Mr. Coffee.

WHAT A WASTE!
2 Star Review

Strengths: Single serve ability

Weakness: Over priced, noisy, large and wasteful.

My husband got a Keurig coffee maker against my better judgement. I had already heard from others how noisy it was and I didn't like the counter space hogging size of it, but since I drink decaf and my husband drinks high test, I relented. I wasn't impressed with the first few cups of coffee and out of curiosity, opened one of the k-cups after I brewed it. I was very surprised to find DRY coffee grinds inside! Only a portion of the grinds was wet (i.e. used) and the rest was apparently being wasted with each and every costly little k-cup! The pressurized water stream just pushes through the center of the k-cup contents and doesn't touch the rest. Apparently, there is not enough of a delay for the water to fill the k-cup and soak all the contents before exiting the machine. I now remove each k-cup after the first use, shake it up to distribute the unused grinds, and reuse it. We actually get a better cup of coffee the second time around. It's not that we're penny pinchers - it just really ticks us off that this thing is such a rip off. And forget about making the hot chocolate - it leaves half the glorified Swiss Miss in the k-cup and the only way to get it into your cup is to rip off the lid and scrape it out. The Keurig is a great concept, but would need alot of improvement before we would recommend it.

Great for coffee lovers
5 Star Review   By member pantherkeeper - Apr 18, 2008

Strengths: Ability to satisfy many tastes, convenience, reduces waste

Weakness: K cups tend to be pricey

We have a Keurig at work, so I was familiar with the product. When one came up on Amazon (B70) for $130.00 I jumped on it without even consulting wife, lol. We love it, no mess (had a Cuisinart Grind & Brew Thermal...another great product), variety (I like strong coffee, she like medium/mild); no wasting full pots when guests don't have some after dinner. The K-cups tend to be pricey & not that readily available other than on the net, but hey, cheaper than Starbucks or Tim Hortons. Very happy with it!

B70 Makes An O-K-Cup o' Coffee
3 Star Review   By member bobsobi - Mar 7, 2008

Strengths: Convenience - hot coffee in less than a minute. Almost no maintenance.

Weakness: Many K-Cups available produce marginal coffee at best. Noise and vibration when pump operates. Vibration can make some cups "walk" across the base.

Being used to freshly-burr-ground coffee, I was a little skeptical about how good K-Cup coffee would be. That was until a relative bought the B60, and I tried a few K-Cups myself. They're really not bad, but if you really prize fresh coffee (especially black), don't even think of tossing your grinder and press! The big advantage, though, is not having to wait long for a cup of coffee. While I am spoiled by freshly roasted-and-ground coffee, there are lots of times when I appreciate the convenience of cranking out a travel mug of OK Joe in a minute. It takes some effort to try all the varieties of K-Cups out there, but chances are you'll find a handful you'll want to keep on hand so you can whip up a brew when you're in a hurry. Bottom line: coffee drinkers who go heavy on the sweetener and creamer will be happier than those who take their Arabica seriously!

Keurig Platinum B70 Coffee Maker
4 Star Review   By member afrugal1 - Feb 2, 2008

Strengths: Tasty Joe!

Weakness: Large Footprint

My coffee swillin' spouse is ga-ga for this machine. Hot gourmet coffee is produced quickly. This non-coffee drinker has great fun watching the gourmet coffee brew into the cup. I am very happy that my spouse is cutting down on expensive coffee habit [SBUX] in favor of this home remedy.

Keurig B70 Single-Serve Coffee Maker
5 Star Review   By member SDTechDeals - Feb 2, 2008

Strengths: Great coffee; easy to use; lots of strenth options

Weakness: Expensive; Big

I have had a senseo coffee maker for a few years, and have never been all that satisfied with the taste. I like the frothy layer on top, but all the coffee's were so-so tasting. Plus, the coffee never got hot enough. I decided to give the Keurig a try, after tasting it at a friends house. I was hesitant, due to the up front cost, but have been happy. Setup was really easy. Turn it on, then perform an initial priming of the machine. It flushes the entire tank of water thru the system. Included in the box was a selection of 18 K-Cups, from various brands. There were a few organic, which was important to us, but only one decaf! My wife prefers decaf, so I had to order some right away. I put in my first K-cup, and in about 30-seconds, I had a hot (190 degrees) cup of coffee. It was very nice, and equivalent to what I would get in a coffee shop. Cleanup is easy, as you just throw out the cup. There is a large water tank, so you don't have to fill it up very often. The LCD display and menu system was relatively easy to navigate. I was able to figure out how to have it turn itself off automatically. Note that when you turn it back on, it take a few minutes before it is ready to make the first cup. You could leave it on all the time, but that means wasting electricity. Also note that this thing is BIG, both in width & lenth, as well as height. If you have low hanging cabinets, it may not fit underneath. The cost of K-Cup coffee is about $0.50, so its more expensive than Senseo (about $0.35-$0.40), but it's worth it taste wise!

4 Star Review   By member missnu3 - Jun 16, 2007

Strengths: Convenience

Weakness: Inability to completely drain inner tank for winter storage (purchased for RV).

I love Keurig coffee makers. The convenience is incomparable. I now own a B40 for my office, a B60 for my RV, and a B70 for my home. The coffee is so wonderful, it has spoiled me. I am rarely satisfied with a cup of coffee in a restaurant. It is never fresh enough.

The best 60 seconds of your morning...
5 Star Review   By member mm9351 - Jun 6, 2007

Strengths: fast hot gourmet coffee, stainless/black finish, blue back-lighted controls and water container, adjustable water flow, looks great!

Weakness: expensive to buy, and total cost of ownership!

The best 60 seconds of your morming will be spent watching your gourmet coffee brew into your cup. After 2 days I am still in awe of what this product can do. When you're running late to work, you still have time for a perfect cup of coffee without going to Starbucks drive-thru; and you'll save $$ since each cup works out to about $.38. But this is not a cheap investment, mind you. Cost of ownership, after the initial outlay of $200, may continue to set you back a few sheckels. Let's see, you have the operating costs (heaters on continuously...use the auto on/off timer; the K-cups can be purchased in quantity to save money. But the way I see it, in the long run you'll SAVE $$ by 1) skipping Starbucks; 2) not making an entire pot of coffee which gets thrown out anyway. Zero waste! So there you have it. You will absolutely LOVE the Keurig B70 Platinum. And you'll be proud to show it off to your company. A fine addition to your gourmet kitchen.

Platinum B70 Coffee Maker
5 Star Review

Strengths: Ease of use, convenience, brew size choices, K-Cup choices, most of all it produces a fabulous cup of coffee in less than 1 minute!

Weakness: The initial cost, but that's quickly forgotten after the first few great cups of coffee.

I purchased the Keurig B70 Platinum as a gift for myself after researching one-cup coffee brewers for weeks. The B70 was my choice because of the different brew sizes and has been my daily delight since I brought it home. I am a bit of a coffee snob in that I love a great freshly brewed cup and can tell instantly if the pot has been sitting on the burner longer than 20-30 minutes. The B70 is the answer!
