DeLonghi Pump EC155
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Feb 13, 2009

The DeLonghi Pump EC155 is a low-end Espresso machine. The body of the device is made of a durable plastic and is completely encased in a professional black finish; at the same time it only weighs a total of 7 pounds. The EC155 includes a 35 ounce or 1 liter removable water tank as well as a fully detachable drip tray; which allows much easier cleaning methods. The Pump EC155 takes advantage of the patented dual-function filter holder system which enables the device to accommodate two completely separate attachments; one is for simple ground coffee and the other is for attachable pods which tailor to different beverages. The EC155 device also includes DeLonghis swivel jet frother technology which dispenses the correct amount of froth for a cappucino or other froth related beverage. The DeLonghi Pump EC155 espresso machine includes additional features such as a stainless steel boiler, fully adjustable steam emission, ... PROS: (1) light (2) affordable (3) removable drip tray (4) steam wand (5) easy to use ... CONS: (1) mostly plastic (2) frother is positioned too low (3) limited space for cups (4) cannot brew regular coffee

This small poppy make a job.
4 Star Review   By Alper on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

As retired R&D professional I made side by side test for this poppy and Sirena (Starbucks designed by BMW espresso machine, $500). DeLonghi looks much less professional not so convenient and more primitive (sure, it cost five times less). But it makes espresso and cappuccino “testier”, richer.

Good for the price!
4 Star Review   By BoricuaSiempre on Home Depot - May 19, 2013

We just got our first cups of nice espresso and capuchinno on this machine. You have to follow the instructions TO THE LETTER, so it needs to warm up, you need warm cups, and DEFINITELY need to tamp down the coffee into the filter. The unit is made of plastic, so don't expect a sturdy, heavy weight. It does the trick if you are careful with it. Make sure to hold the unit down when using the tamping device, as you need some pressure to compact the coffee, and just pressing up with the filter without holding the whole machine will not be enough to get a good, even layer of coffee for the pressurized steaming water to flow through. This is the key to good espresso. Nice crema on both coffees, but we decided to do one cup at a time, instead of using the double spout. YOU control the amount of coffee going into your cup, so be careful to pour just enough for the 1.5 ounces needed in a good espresso. Pour more and you end up with regular coffee, not the strong, aromatic, crema rich espresso. The frother worked also as expected, and we did a "steam cleaning" by allowing steam out into an empty cup prior to using it to froth the milk container. We used 2% fat skim milk and it came out very nice and fluffy, with plenty of thickness. Be careful also to not use to much milk. The instructions indicate 3.5 ounces, but I would recommend 3.0 ounces as the optimum amount. Be sure to have a frothing container shallow enough to let the tip of the frothing spout to touch the surface of the milk, and wide enough to allow the frothed milk to expand without spilling.

Good value for the price
3 Star Review   By cremebrulee on Home Depot - Mar 19, 2013

We have had some issues getting good crema on this machine. We are using freshly ground beans from wholefoods, so we are unsure whether it is the coffee, machine or the barista! Don't like the plastic frother on this, but can get around it by purchasing a 6mm stainless steel tip. Other than the above dislikes, it performs as it should, and is good value for the price.

This unit doesn't make enought espresso for my large iced latte. I have to do it 2x for a strong coffee
2 Star Review   By Erin on Home Depot - Jan 29, 2013

I am probably going to be returning this item. Not that great of flavor for the $100 ticket price. If you are not there watching the coffee going into the cup the vibrations will make the cup go off the tray.

Great Little Machine. Well Worth The Money!
5 Star Review   By member Twordsdiverged - May 26, 2008

Strengths: Compact Powerful

Weakness: Not a Solid Metal Wand For Steaming Shot Cup Moves a Little When Espresso is Pouring

Let me begin with saying this is a great machine, especially for the price. I am a man on a budget but really wanted to get my girlfriend an espresso maker. She was a barrista back in the day so I was concerned with a Sub $100 machine. This machine is great and she loves it. It warms up in about 10 minutes, stays hot enough to steam a full pot of milk for her espresso, and then can be used immediately after steaming milk to brew the espresso. Cleanup is easy, the size is compact.......I just can't say enough good things. The only real drawback is the wand which should not have a plastic endcap on it. The plastic piece is more difficult to clean than a more traditional metal wand.

Delonghi EC155 Espresso Maker is a winner!
5 Star Review   By member zoomjc - Apr 20, 2008

Strengths: Great espresso taste Easy to make super steam milk/froth Fast to brew and easy to clean up

Weakness: Have to screw frother on/off every time...a little time-consuming but not a big problem

I am very happy with this purchase. Have always had a Krups unit, but this is much better and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to save money by making a great latte or cappucinno on your own.

Delonghi Espresso Maker - EC155
4 Star Review   By member mamcglaughlin - Mar 22, 2008

Strengths: Good value. Easy to operate. No major problems encountered. Produces quality espresso w/ crema

Weakness: Takes a little extra time to get super-hot water. Have to use a bit of force to ensure filter handle is firmly attached.

This machine is a great value. Based on user opinions, I selected this over the Capresso classic. I've been using for a bit less than a week and am pleased with the performance. Using Illy med. roast espresso coffee, I produce perfect espresso, with crema, every time. Yeah! I checked several models and selected this one based on user opinion and it's good value. ie less than $150. I ran the unit several times with clear water to clean out the lines and to familiarize myself with how the unit worked. The instructions can be a little clearer, but are sufficient. After getting the water to the right temp, green light, I let it sit and the water seems to get a bit hotter. I am concerned about if the filter handle is firmly attached but don't want to over-torque the assembly. Espresso was very nice, not too bitter. Watch out for the warming top, it can get hot. I haven't tried the frothing attachment yet. I guess I need to get a frothing pitcher or something like it. Black and silver styling is par for the course. Not real heavy. I have previously purchased a Delonghi coffee maker and found it very reliable. That experience helped me lean to the EC155. So far so good.

Outstanding Machine
5 Star Review   By member zydallis - Feb 17, 2008

Strengths: Easy to use, great espresso

Weakness: Only espresso cups shorter than 2.5" will fit

Great machine for the price. It is virtually impossible to make bad espresso with this machine assuming you stop the flow of espresso at the right time (prior to it looking like water is coming out). Reading reviews from other web sites, people complined about the frother, however, this frother works much better than the steam driven DeLonghi frother that I used to use. Biggest disadvantage is the fact that you need to use a shot glass to collect the espresso due to the short distance from where the espresso comes out of the machine and the machine base

Great for Lattes
5 Star Review

Strengths: Makes good coffee. Much better than the one I get at local/chain coffee shops. Operation is straight-forward.

Weakness: Frothing wand is too low. Even the smallest pitcher does not quite fit. I circumvented this by putting th eEC155 on a small stand.

I love latte and I looked through a number of reviews before homing in on this espresso maker. Unit was a breeze to setup and worked very well. I was always afraid of frothing the milk as it looked pretty hard. With EC155 i frothed a perfect jug during my first try. My lattes come out very smooth, much better than those from the coffee shops. Don't let the price scare you: you get your money's worth. I have latte 3 times a day and I owned this machine for almost 30 days now. It, in essence, paid for itself. I also tried making some hot chocolate for kids using steamed milk and they loved it. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is serious about making good-quality lattes.

Strengths: mostly everything

Weakness: frother could be a bit longer and space for cup could be a bit higher

I love this machine! I've been using it every day since I got it. It has been impossible to make a bad espresso. The crema is perfect every time and the milk froths very easily. I really like the alternate pre-heat option. I highly recommend this machine!

Good machine for the price
4 Star Review   By member martalucky - Jan 20, 2008

Strengths: Fast, good quality espresso. Frother works well but is positioned a little too low. Built-in tamper

Weakness: Frother is too low.

I got this machine for Christmas to replace a steam driven model. Compared to the steam driven it is much faster and makes much better quality espresso. The milk frother is also fast and easy to use. Overall it is a good entry level espresso maker.
