Do not buy this iron
2 Star Review   By member wsrhodes - Jul 29, 2011

Strengths: Irons fine

Weakness: Shuts off too often."Clean" feature is bogus.

I use it to make quilts, which means that I cut some fabric, sew it, press it, and repeat. My complaint is with the “Auto Shut-Off” feature. The manual says that “When the iron is idle for 10 minutes…..[it] will turn off.” I can tell that there is a motion sensor in the iron that regulates this feature. However, it does not work as advertised. It will often turn off within seconds or a minute or two of when I use it. Indeed, there have been times when it has turned off as I am ironing the fabric! So a) the sensor is not “sensitive” enough to normal ironing motions and/or b) it is defective. This results in me having to constantly pick up the iron and shake it to make sure it stays hot.And while I am venting, let me say a few words about the “Self-Cleaning System”. I do not and have never used water in the iron. Yet, as the manual indicates, from time to time, “A “CLEAN” indicator will appear in the digital display to notify you when the iron needs cleaning.” This feature obviously also works on an internal clock (as opposed to actually sensing when the iron is dirty), so the advertising on the box and in the manual is misleading. To make things even worse, the “CLEAN” light goes off after a while whether I do any cleaning (per the manual) or not. Voila! It has magically cleaned itself! To me, both of these faults qualify as poor engineering and false advertising.I wrote to B&D about this and got no reply.

A winner!
5 Star Review   By member bonniejrc - Dec 29, 2008

Strengths: Heats up very fast, easy to use controls.

Weakness: Haven't found any. I like the weight---neither too heavy nor too light for my purposes.

I bought this iron almost a year ago, based on Consumer Reports and the reviews I read online. I don't usually come back a year later and write reviews, but this one is worth taking the time for. I don't use an iron on a daily basis, but this one is a pleasure to use. Actually makes ironing halfway enjoyable. Stongly recommend.

Fantastic iron
5 Star Review

Strengths: steam production, self cleaning, digital controls,

This is a fantastic iron. Beats a Rowenta that just gave up on me. Makes great steam, awesome water capacity, makes ironing almost not seem like a chore. Great product with extra long cord. This is a great value for the price.

Finally, an iron that delivers!
5 Star Review   By member nsemo - May 3, 2007

Strengths: Gets rid of wrinkles ... duh!

Weakness: none yet

Easy to use - no need to go over and over the fabric. Better than much higher priced irons I've bought and been disappointed with. So far, so good, here's hoping it lasts.

Black and Decker D2030 Steam Iron
5 Star Review   By member angelgkd - Mar 30, 2007

Strengths: Steam feature is awesome. Digital display very useful.

I had a high end Rowina iron, which never came close to the performance of this model. My ironing time was cut in half, and with the the superb steam feature, I don't even need to use spray starch.

Buying this iron is a good decision
5 Star Review   By member B_Sholl - Mar 14, 2007

Strengths: Heats up quickly, uses tap water for most areas of the country, tells you when it needs to be cleaned, comfortable handle even for left-handed people, longer cord than my old iron (10+ feet)

Weakness: Heavier than my old iron, but not much more.

I had used a Tefal iron for 10 years and then it finally wouldn't heat up. After such positive reviews on this iron I made the purchase. I am very pleased with its performance. The digital display is bright with large print. It glides over the fabric and even easily irons out the creases I sometimes accidentally iron into the fabric. You do have to set the settings each time you start to iron. (I was spoiled by leaving the setting the same each time since I mostly ironed cottons.) They recommend that you set the steam setting to "no steam" when you're done ironing. All-in-all, I like this iron.

Upgrade your iron with the Black and Decker D2030
5 Star Review   By member herb19p - Mar 2, 2007

Strengths: Digital displays and Steam features

Weakness: Slightly heavy

Most impressive about the B&D D2030 Steam Iron are the steam features which include Variable Steam Control, Vertical Steaming and Steam bursts. Other features which I liked are the Digital Temperature Displays, auto-off and auto-cleaning. Altogether, it is a big step up from the B&D F495SA Steam Iron which I had used for many years.

great iron
5 Star Review   By member michiganst8fan - Feb 1, 2007

Strengths: heats up fast, heavy, good steam power

Weakness: heavy

This is a great iron. I was using a T-fal and this iron blows it away. This iron is heavy which to me is a good thing, but to same it may not be. I figure the heavier, the more weight on the fabric which helps iron it (think old school black iron). This iron heats up fast and works VERY well.

A GREAT VALUE AND PERFORMER
5 Star Review   By member jnshon - Dec 29, 2006

Strengths: Works just as well as the higher priced irons.

Weakness: none so far

I've owned two Rowenta steam irons - the first one (Advantage) just stopped working, and the second one (Duo) developed a leak from the water reservoir - both were out of warranty and less than two years old. I was very disappointed with the build quality and durability of these irons, so I decided to change brands. After much research on-line, I decided to purchase the D2030 from a brick and mortar store. With the B&D D2030, it's easy to tell when the iron is ready to be used - it was hard to tell that with the Rowenta indicator during sunny days. It's easy to fill and the steam production is great. It's comfortable to use for long periods of time and it costs less than half the price of the Rowentas I purchased. I had an old B&D iron that lasted for years, and I'm hoping this one will last for a long time.

Good Iron-But I hate It!
2 Star Review

Strengths: Great features - steams great, removes wrinkles, and the sprayer is great for dampening cottons before ironing.

Weakness: The "on" button is a thin line that you have to dig in with your fingertip. It hurts to turn it on, and to iron on cotton (level 6), you have to press the button 6 times.

I sew and use this iron, it turns itself off while I'm sewing and I have turn the iron back on each time I need to use it. By the end of the day, my fingers are so sore from pressing the on button (6 times for cotton) that I'm ready to throw it out and buy another iron that is easier to turn on. If you sew and move from iron to sewing machine and back to the iron as I do, don't purchase this iron.

I Love This Iron!!!
5 Star Review   By member kamcneil - Aug 3, 2006

Strengths: Excellent steam with variable output. Smooth soleplate. Easy to fill with water, no spillage, no spatters.

Weakness: A little heavier than other irons, but I am getting used to it, and it really helps put extra pressure on the garment.

I love to iron now. The Black & Decker D2030 is a pleasure to use. It heats up very fast. It turns off automatically if you forget to. The first time I used it I couldn't stop ironing. I could iron twice as fast as with my old iron. The variable temperature and steam are so easy to adjust. The burst of steam is great for those hard to get out wrinkles. I haven't used the steam in the upright position yet, but intend to use it on my drapes and dust ruffles.
