bad news, good news
1 Star Review   By cjrr on Home Depot - Jul 7, 2010

Bad news: the unit we bought on-line was a lemon. It worked for about 5 days then made a scary loud sound within 15 mns of turning it on. Good news: I brought it in to our local Home Depot (I didn't box it up) & they quickly gave me a refund. The people who helped were great & even transferred it from the car to the store for me.

too much water and not cooling
1 Star Review   By arnielion on Home Depot - Jul 7, 2010

I bought this before the summer and what a mistake. First is was the water filling up every hour, now it keeps tripping my breaker. If I could return it and get a different brand I would. I have 1 that is another brand and I do not have to empty the water and it does not trip the breaker Both are 13500 BTU.

Keeping cool in RI
5 Star Review   By MaryAnnT on Home Depot - Jul 7, 2010

This AC works well. I have moved it from room to room and it has kept in the cool air even during this past heat wave. If it works on a day that is 100 degrees than you know it will work on any day. It even kept my double polar cool which is fairly large given that it is really two rooms in one. It is very easy to use, doesn't need to be filled with water and you just put a pan under it to drain it when a warning light comes on. It has an attractive design, I bought the black and silver one which was able to fit in to my decor in all my rooms. I live in a first floor apartment which was broken into last summer because the thief pushed in the AC when I was out one night. Now, I just put this in the window when I am home, (goes in quickly and you can even keep the screens down) and take it out before I leave for the night. The only problem that I had with the AC is that the shipping company lost it and I waited over a month before I received a new one but when I called Home Depot they immediately sent me a new one, gave me a gift card and took 20 percent of the new one that they sent me. Also, you have to install the air hoses into a plastic circle which attaches on both sides to the plate in the window and the back of the AC, this was a major pain to do! You need to catch the rings just right or it doesn't go on. I had trouble and had two friends who tried to help but became aggerated trying to get it together. But, for the last piece, I did not use any pressure and it just gently slide on. I may have been making it harder than it actually was but it just seems like an akward fit because you only push it down to the first few rings. Overall, I think this is an excellent product especially for a single woman who lives by herself. I no longer have to beg my friends to come over and bring my ACs up from the cellar, this is attractive enough to leave out all year round and since its portable it can be moved from room to room.

Best for my odd situation, but lacking...
3 Star Review   By Dave3006 on Home Depot - Jun 28, 2010

Performance was fine, and draining is not a problem. It cools and dehumidifies my 375 sq ft garage workshop. I am through wall ducting it. It works well considering the minimal insulation (as in none) in the walls, and only roll up doors and ceiling being insulated. For the BTU rating I expected more cooling performance. The fan is insufficient to move the cooled air around the space this machine is rated to cool. I had to use box fans to stir the air around to avoid hot and cold spots. I ordered the black / gray model, and received the all white model. Which is fine, I wanted the all white, but when I ordered the black / gray was on sale... Overall I am pleased, but the under powered blower / fan forces me to ding this unit. A pity too. It does what I ask it to...

Scary Machine
1 Star Review   By rmk1717 on Home Depot - Jun 28, 2010

Packaging was good and fairly easy to put together but I had to do some work to vent the two hoses properly. We finally got a humid day to give a good try. It wasn't really doing a very good job of cooling our area. Then, the worst of all, after it ran for several minutes it started shuddering violently and making a load rattlling noise. It would stop making the noise and shaking while it was still running but then it would start doing it again. We're not happy with it and wound't recommend this to anyone.

4 Star Review   By Bilo on Home Depot - Jun 28, 2010

We received the unit about two weeks ago. The shipping box was slightly torn, but the unit was undamaged. The set up was relatively simple, except for installing the hoses into the holders. This is a really poor design and took me about 30 minutes to perform the task. I recommend using some silicon spray lubrication as this seemed to help screw in the hoses into the holders. Cutting of one of the supplied extenders was required to fit the intake/discharge window adapter into the window opening. This would be a problem if you don’t have the correct tools e.g. hack or jig saw. The unit performs well and easily cools our master bedroom. However, temperatures in Seattle have not been very warm yet this year so I’m not sure how the unit will perform under a higher heat load. The measured cool-air outlet temperature is approximately 29 F lower than the room temperature. From my understanding A/C units should pull at least 25 F lower than the room air. Make sure to follow the recommended minimum 3 minute shut down before restarting the unit i.e. if the unit is running and it is shut down leave it off for at least 3 minutes. I did not follow the recommendation and the unit would not produce cold air even though the compressor was running. In addition, the condensate reservoir filled and needed to be drained. I’m not sure if this two incidents are related, but I haven’t had to drain the water since. The unit seems a little loud for a bedroom, but a hot sleepless night would be a worse alternative. Overall, I am pleased with the unit.

Better than a window air conditioner, worse than..
4 Star Review   By pvittie on Home Depot - Jun 27, 2010

Ever deal with a window unit? The annual process of putting it in, and then taking it out...not fun. This unit is certainly better than a window air conditioner. No grueling gymnastics squeezing into the window. No deformed window sashes. But it creates problems of its own: it's huge, and the hoses--which, conveniently, no one talks about--are a major, unsightly hassle. The window insert was made of cheap, brilttle plastics that cracked quickly. To remedy, I'm going to install thru-wall (like a dryer vent). Getting to what matters: cooling ability. We were quite pleased with the unit's ability. Can't speak to longevity yet...but the electronics are intuitively designed and seem to work well.

Wicked cool and loving it!!
5 Star Review   By Fotograffa on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2010

My new portable a/c arrived a couple of weeks ago and it was cool out and I didn't need to connect it. I had business travel plans and didn't get to it until this week when the heat was too much to handle. My neighbor helped me get it down the stairs to the space I needed to use it and it was fairly easy to install. Have duct tape on hand. I'm using it in a basement room and it is a room that is used 24/7. Some find these types of a/c units loud but not as loud as running fans. It might bother some...it doesn't bother me. I'm very happy with my purchase and I have recommended this item to others. It's working out very well for us.

Enjoyable
4 Star Review   By cjrr on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2010

System was realativly easy to setup and use. Our use is to maintain temp. in 1000 sq in the late afternoons, typically low humidity Seems to do the job very well. Window kit actually allowed for larger window than specified so it added additional flexiblity. Difficultiy in threading the plastic duct work and the exhaust duct gets extremely warm - coutner productive to the cooling. Very pleased to date - 3 wks.

Works Well
4 Star Review   By JC44 on Home Depot - Jun 15, 2010

I've had the unit for about a week. It's doing a good job of cooling a large master bed / bath. It's augmenting a central air system, but down here is south Louisiana, summer highs frequently hit 100, and the back of the house runs several degrees warmer than the rest. It's doing what I want it to. Installation was not smooth. I had to trim the window vent to make it fit correctly, and I'm not a big fan of the way the hose threads onto the end connectors. But it is working.

SO dissapointed
1 Star Review   Home Depot

Bought this unit early, before the rush of a/c buyers snatched up the good ones. When we finally got it out, I realized that we were sent the white unit instead of the black unit, but thought, oh well, not sending it back if it works. Not only did it look cheaply made, the double hose set up limited where we could put it. To top it off - it didn't work at all. It just blew regular, not cool, air. What a pain to return, especially with the wrong model being sent to us. LUckily the awesome employees at the store were able to work it out so we got a much nicer unit that works great & actually looks nice. I would NOT recommend this unit. I wouldn't even give it 1 star.

beware
1 Star Review   By mrss on Home Depot - Jun 12, 2010

this is not at all what we expected, it is very large and looks like a robot! I ran the air conditioner all night and it only made the temp. in the room go down by a few degrees, at 13, 500 BTUS this thing should make a small room an icebox. I now have to return this thing and it is huge, very heavy and a major dissappointment..in order for it to be returned it has to be in the original packaging....it also take several weeks for it to arrive, it does not come ups or fed ex...BEWARE!!!!!!

wonderfully cool
5 Star Review   By Mishey1 on Home Depot - Jun 10, 2010

keeps the room so cool I have to shut it off, put on a blanket or turn it down. Its great. Yes, you do have to empty the water pan but how often is based on the humidity level in your home. I run it on high so it is a little loud but I am asthmatic and the colder the better so I don't mind the noise, just turn the tv up, lols. For extra safety had an electrician run a connection so that it is on its own breaker.

Portable A/C Unit
5 Star Review   By JP00 on Home Depot - May 30, 2010

Was really amazed with the portable a/c unit, the installation guide provided for window & unit was quick and easy. Also the units dual exhaust hose made cooling down our livingroom an ease. As a result the overall appearance matches my furniture and the price is great..

Good unit.....so far
4 Star Review   By Jim2010 on Home Depot - May 29, 2010

I chose this unit based on the BTU's. It's a bit larger than some of the other units but it has wheels and can be rolled from room to room. The window kit should fit most windows. Expect the 'Water Full' light to flash about every other day and will require you to drain by popping the plug at the base of the unit. This plug is easy to pop out, putting it back in will take some effort. Just make sure you have a shallow pan to drain the water in , you have maybe an inch and a half clearance. For the most part I have no problems with the unit and it cools the room real good and will ease the burden on your central air.

Noisy
1 Star Review   By Orchidgrower on Home Depot - May 12, 2010

I had it one month, only used it a few times while the weather started getting warmer, and it did not cool very well. It also began making a horrible noise, kind of a loud rattle every few minutes. The entire unit would begin to shake... Also, as someone mentioned previously, it does not connect very well to the exhaust hose and does leak warm air into the room. The water drain is also located so low, it's almost impossible to drain. It's been sent back...

Decent AC Unit
3 Star Review   By louisianaheat on Home Depot - May 6, 2010

This unit does the job well. It cools my room even in 90 degree plus weather. The cons are it is bulky, the hose set up does not seal completely and leaves room for air leakage. The worst ting about this product is the water removal. I'v used it for bout 3 weeks now, and just lately i have to drain the water every other day. I only use the unit in the night so its agrivating when it shuts off in the middle of the night with "water full" light blinking. i have to get up, get a pan, pull the plug, let the water drain, go empty it, then i can turn it back on and get back to sleep...to give it credit, i live in louisiana's muggy climate. i haven't had one of these portable units before, and next time i think i'll just go with a window unit.

so far, so good
5 Star Review   By 1vick on Home Depot - May 3, 2010

This portable unit is working great. It was easy to set up and was delivered earlier than expected. It is getting hot here in Texas, but this a/c is getting the job done. I am very pleased. This unit is quieter than my window unit was. The control panel is easy to read. It will take up space in your room so don't be surprised at its size. The real test will be how it works in the summer in the Texas heat.

Used It One Night
1 Star Review   By DISAPPOINTEDINVA on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2010

I was very hopeful this unit would do everything it says it does. I set it up fairly easily. It is a very heavy unit (package) arriving at over 100 lbs. The features looked great. However, the first night I used (set on low cool for about 6 hours), I was awakened at 4a.m. with this beeping noise and red light indicating the unit had shut down down to excess water in the unit. I drained the water and called the maunfacturer the next day. They said the unit was defective send it back. I then called Home Depot and they have someone coming to get the unit. I hope they will carry the unit down 12 stairs because I had to pay someone to lift this huge unit upstairs. Disappointing first experience with a portable a/c unit. Good experience getting it delivered and promised to be returned by HD.
