Fan was broken out of the box.
1 Star Review   By Alohastang on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

Quality is horrible. The fan unit did not work, it was brand new. Will try once more.

Just what I needed for TEXAS dry heat
4 Star Review   By Dippy on Home Depot - Aug 28, 2012

I agree with other ratings that the air distribution was rather small. Needs a water level indicator, especially when damage can be done if pump is running when dry. Otherwise, it does a very good job of cooling the area it reaches. Got a lot of compliments on the unit during garage sale. I do need to call the maker about the water house function - doesn't seem to be working right.

Happy as a Pig in Mud!!!
5 Star Review   By HodZ on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012

I purchased a port-a-cool model from L0w3s that wasn't even in the owners manual or on the port-a-cool website. It looked as if it was built at the port-a-john factory. It was poor quality all around. So I returned it and bought this one from Home Depot. This thing is a miracle in the Arizona heat. It was 113 degrees today and I used it in my garage, sanding a wood project, and the cooler had no problem keeping me comfortable. Granted you need it to blow in your direction, but it beats a box fan by a long shot. Worth every penny!

American Made...Quality Product...Easy to Operate!
4 Star Review   By Bill on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

Easy to operate and appears to be well constructed. An evaporative cooler is not an air conditioner, but it does take the edge of a very hot day! It works better in dry climates.

THIS COOLER WORKS GREAT, IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE BUYING!
5 Star Review   By WarehouseHeat on Home Depot - Jul 3, 2012

We were looking for a replacement spot cooler for our warehouse, which is located smack in the middle of Central Tx. These coolers use water, and are not meant as replacements for air conditioners, so if you're expecting mechanically or chemically cooled air - shop for something else. What they do great (even in Texas humidity) is create a bearable working space in the warehouse environment. As another review said, you should only expect a mid-80's temperature in the affected area, but as far as I am concerned that's a huge step away from the 105+ that's very typical. Good design, great construction quality, and almost thought-free operation. Fill it up, plug it in, turn it on, and enjoy!

Does the job
4 Star Review   By NiwotSteve on Home Depot - Jul 3, 2012

Live in Colorado which is a dry climate. I purchased it to cool the patio area when used in the summer. I work from home and enjoy taking my laptop to the patio to work when the weather is pleasant. This will extend my outdoor office season and come in handy when entertaining outdoors. I have 2 minor complaints. It is noisier than I expected which requires me to turn it off or walk away from the unit if on the phone. There is a smell to the air it blows out. I think this is the smell of the plastic housing. Hopefully, it will dissipate over time. It isn't mildew/mold as the smell existed from the first moment and I run the fan with pump off for 15 minutes to dry out the media after use.

This product performs marginally
1 Star Review   By OldHarley on Home Depot - Aug 9, 2011

This cooler is manufactured in central Texas, but, surprisingly, is not suitable for that area of the country. The cooler is designed to be used in an outside area, or a garage or workshop with the doors all opened. We bought ours from the Dallas store and with a price tag of $500. for the smallest 2000 cfm model, we were very disappointed. This cooler will only partially cool one person and then ONLY if they are within 4 to 8 feet in FRONT of it. It will not actually cool 500 square feet of area as it is advertised. The air delivered from the unit is only 10 to maybe 15 degrees cooler than the surrounding air, so about 82 degrees is the coolest air you can expect from it in a Texas summer. That air is delivered from a louvered opening roughly 12" by 12" but due to the configuration of the squirrel cage blower outlet, the area is reduced to 6" by 12", which is too small to ever deliver much in the way of hot weather cooling (it is the equivalent of using a small space heater for warming an outside area in January). Larger coolers are available that deliver more air, but the cost gets up into the thousands of dollars. The product was well made in the USA, and may work better in an arid area such as Phoenix, but for most other areas of the country, do not waste your money.
