Can't find a thing...
5 Star Review   By Conjamas on Home Depot - Jul 1, 2008

I can't find a thing wrong with this LG window unit. It cools extremely well during this dry heat wave that we're having in SC. It is very quiet and I am pleased at how little noise the compressor makes. I can't even hardly tell when it's on. Bottom line - a great deal on a fantastic product from HD!

surprisingly effective
3 Star Review   By EC2008 on Home Depot - Jun 23, 2008

this small unit lived up to my expectations. it successfully cooled a 150 sf room with high 10+ foot ceiling on a heatwave day. good: cooled the area at nighttime. the compressor was consistently on with lesser shutoffs. we even had to use blankets in our sleep. bad: unable to perform during the daytime. the compressor for some reason shuts off for 8 mins and =blows cold air for 5 mins. i dont understand the logic behind that.

Great Unit
5 Star Review   By Rockpeddler on Home Depot - Jun 22, 2008

Bought the unit because my new old house central system did not work. Low noise, cools and maintains this 800 SF South Florida cracker house at 78. It averages 90 degrees down here with 70 plus humidity. This 8000 BTU unit has plenty of power to spare. My girlfriend had to put on socks. Way to go LG/HD! Great value.

Excellent air conditioner
5 Star Review   By Sahil on Home Depot - Jun 15, 2008

Very effective air conditioner. Cools my 600 square feet living area without a problem. The onboard thermostat turns off the unit gracefully when the desired temperature is achieved. I wouldn't put this in the bedroom. It will be too powerful and you will hear it turn on and off. It's not whisper quiet, but it's not loud by any means.

Very cool room at a great price
5 Star Review   By member audierules - Jun 11, 2008

Strengths: Just putting it at a low setting quickly cools a nice size room. Very lightweight for an 8000 BTU AC. 5-year warranty.

Weakness: Does not have slide-in chassis. Not energy star.

The AC does a great job in quickly cool my bedroom and the the size is great. The functions are easy to operate and the remote comes in handy. The noise level is about medium and I had no problem falling asleep. I got this unit for a great price at PC Richards and it comes with a 5 year warranty. I love the dry only and energy saving modes.

Nice and cool
5 Star Review   By pele808 on Home Depot - Jun 10, 2008

Works great. Use it to cool an area 325 ft2 in direct sunlight during the second half of the day. The exterior walls are insulated at 4 inch but the main barrier is the 8-10 inches in the ceiling. If the ceiling was not insulated as well then I don't think 8000btu would have been enough to keep the temps in the sixties. The fan speed on high is as loud as most hotel room units. But once the room is chilled after 10-15 minutes and the fan speed is turned down the noise is not enough to keep me awake at night. The remote is very useful in that it controls everything you would find on the front panel: temp, fan speed, timer, mode (cool air vs hot air), and energy saver. The timer has an auto thermostat feature where it will automatically increase the temp by 2 degrees each hour. This works great at night as the outside temps get cooler and the room doesn't remain at a constant chill. The one set back was installation. We have newly installed vinyl windows and although the unit will sit flush on the window I chose to install an a/c mount. If you are using a universal type mount, it must be installed on the outside so that it sits flush with the height of the window. Our windows outer edge is almost flush with the siding so to install the mount I had to install a ledge (false sill). This carpentry step isn't so bad if you aren't too worried about appearance but if you want a nice professional look it will take a few tools, a piece of 2 x 6, nails, primer, and paint. In short, the unit works great and if you are okay with a direct window mount (the unit is actually not that heavy) or have windows with exterior facing sills then installation is a breeze. Otherwise if you have vinyl windows with no outside sill and want the unit installed with a universal type mount it will take some time and effort. But when the days over, the unit works great and looks good from inside and out.

Great product
5 Star Review   By NY12118 on Home Depot - Jun 6, 2008

This airconditioner is great. Not that noisey. It is alot quieter than my frigidaire that I bought last year. I have it in my bedroom and love it. It cools just a good as my 10,000 btu frigidaire. I would recommend this unit to anyone...

Cools and dehumifies well at a great price
4 Star Review   By Groundhog on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2008

This unit surpasses my expectations. It cools my 15 x 18 room very nicely at low settings and does a great job of keeping the humidity down. The energy saver does cause the unit to cycle too frequently for my liking - the manual states that this setting allows it to read the room air temperature and decide whether it needs to cool. Of course, you can always turn this feature off using the included remote control. The remote works well and controls the temperature setting, fan speed, timer mode, energy saver and on/off. Not bad at this price point! Yes, high fan speed is loud, but effective in quickly cooling - just turn down to medium or low and enjoy. Note, this A/C sells with LWHD8008R model number on the shelves. The controls are on the left side and the air vents go the entire width of the top. 5 year warrantee is great.

Bad vibrations.
1 Star Review   By cabnd00 on Home Depot - Jun 3, 2008

This air conditioner uses a lot of plastic components and fails to properly secure them, and it vibrates really loudly when the air conditioner is on. The features are decent, but the noise is overwhelming. I would not recommend purchasing this product.

LG Window AC Review
4 Star Review

Strengths: Good value for the money. Used in cooling model home until central air was in. Worked great.

Weakness: Difference in fan speed is difficult to detect.

Cannot complain about the operation of the unit. Used to cool 700 sq feet mult-room building pryor to completion of central air. Remote is nice feature as well as built in GFI. Removed after one season and donated to relative who did not have AC.

LWHD8000R Window Air Conditioner (8,000 BTU)
3 Star Review   By member 122 - Jul 21, 2007

Strengths: Good price, good European brand, part of Phillips, with 5 year warranty.

Weakness: Not an EER 1.8 like some other competitors, but after calls and e-mails to N-Star, the Federal department, numerous electrical stores, NO-ONE can quantify the cost in having a 9.8 v 10.8 EER product.

Just amazed that no-one so far has been able to explain to me what this EER means. If I have two 8,000btu's one cost $160 (LG) EER 9.8 and the other costs $200 EER 10.8. I would say if the 9.8 costs me $10 more per month than the 10.8, for same use, within a year, it would have been cheaper to buy the more expensive model. But, as I mentioned, no one can explain this, so I will use the LG and see what happens to my energy bill.

Not bad for the price
3 Star Review   By member jbeemer - Jul 16, 2007

Strengths: Inexpensive, easy to operate, small profile

Weakness: Fan could be stronger, not a slide-in chassis

We picked up this unit at Circuit City for $160 plus tax, and for an occasional-use 8000BTU AC, I can't really complain. I wish it was a slide-in chassis, but the unit is SO much smaller than our old unit that it was pretty easy to handle. Installation was quick, but we have a porch roof right under the window, so it's just propped there. It fit onto the sill with no problem. I like having the remote, and it's easy to figure it all out. I like the digital temp option, and the unit has a timer feature. It is not a super powerful unit and I'd put the noise level at "medium". I'm a little disappointed with the fan - not much difference between low, medium and high speeds. Yesterday was in the upper 80's and muggy, and the unit seemed to do fine. Not the best unit out there, I'm sure, but not a bad deal overall.

quiet, quickly cools our room not very expensive
4 Star Review   By member vsuser - Jul 5, 2007

Strengths: quiet, quickly cools our room not very expensive, has dry only and energy save modes, remote. 5 years warranty for parts and labor.

Weakness: heavy, not energy star

It is very quiet air conditioner, which is easy on wallet. I wish it was energy star compliant, but otherwise solid. bought it on buy.com. the unit is heavy, so upsfreight smashed the box, but unit have not suffered any damage. It cools room quickly. it has remote. The display on the unit does not show room temperature, but the set value.

Finally a great value
5 Star Review

Strengths: quiet, easy to use and great price compared to GE.

I first bought a Frigidare, took it back in less than a week, too loud!! sounds like a jet airplane even on low speed. The LG is very quite and a quality design, I can now have a restful sleep.

Great product for its price
5 Star Review   By member online shopper1 - Jun 1, 2007

Strengths: Cheap price, 5 year warranty, acceptably quiet operation

Weakness: Nothing so far

I bought this unit for its cheap price and brand name, and it does what it should do, i.e. cooling. The menu might be too simple for those who looks for fancy functions, but I'm satisfied with its functions.
