I had a kenmore prior to this one. It was only 6000 btu. It was more effective and didn't make near the noise.
1 Star Review   By 1BadAc on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2013

The exhaust system and being on wheels are about the only positive points I can make about it. And the price wasn't bad, with free shipping. But had I to do it over again knowing what I know now, I would have chosen a different unit.

The first time I turned it on after installation I got the error message saying the water tank was full. Keep in mind this item was brand new out of the box. I tried several different things to fix it but nothing worked. I will be returning this item in the morning. Very disappointed with the purchase.

This unit has a short life span
2 Star Review   By fmfmedic on Home Depot - May 7, 2013

I give this unit two stars because it only lasted until the warranty ran out. Two weeks after the warranty ended, the fan motor bearings went out and the unit now vibrates so bad it's unusable. Until then though, it worked great, except for one instance when the compressor quit. We took it the warranty service shop and it worked fine. Don't know what happened. I have 15 year old window units that still work, so why can't they make a portable that lasts as well? The components are the same.

I using this for our living room because our the cooling tech had to order parts. So our ac is down. It is currently 3:19pm in Orlando outside temps are 85. Inside temps are 84. I know this is spouse to be for a single room but it should do something I would purchase the one that has better reviews I think for 500

Gets the job done, but lacks good controls (you get what you paid for)
2 Star Review   By Jimmy on Home Depot - Feb 7, 2013

This unit cools well and is fairly quiet, however the fan speed is not adjustable. I belive the unit we have may be broken, becuase the controls allow for fan speed adjustment (only High & Low though). Also, the owners manual describes a feature/button on the remote that isn't there......and the manual is specific to this model (as opposed to a manual that may cover multiple models with varying features).

The 24 hour "programmable timer" is a joke, 24 hour running non-stop then then stop forever~~ also, USER GUIDE Recommended for "DO NOT USE extension cord" buy somehow the power cable is very short! LG engineers need work hard on it. Overall, the color is nice, easy to carry..

Use of this product had minimal effect on my electric bill, which was a pleasant surprise. I was able to install it and it performs well. It must be vented, so be sure that the window where you vent it is a central location. No other drawbacks. Well worth the money.

3 Star Review   By Callcover on Home Depot - Oct 2, 2012

These small portables are for SPOT cooling or a very tiny room(8X8). Does the job for this purpose only. If you think it will cool a larger area, you will be returning it. Lowest fan setting is quite forceful, so in a small room expect things to get blown around.

Great for cooling one room
4 Star Review   By Justin on Home Depot - Sep 20, 2012

This unit is great for cooling ONE ROOM ONLY. It will not cool more than one room, even in a one-bedroom apartment. It is a bit on the noisey side, which may make sleeping difficult. It comes with everything you need to install the window vent. I recommend using duct tape for temporary use.

Good value for the money. Does the trick without the bulky window unit.
4 Star Review   By pardonme83 on Home Depot - Aug 28, 2012

The unit is easy to install and is sufficient for our 11 x 13 room. If you have a room any larger, I would recommend going with a larger unit. This covers this area nicely, and it's comfortable. It says it will cover 200 sf but I don't really agree with that. I'd say 150 at most. The unit is great because you can pack it away in the winter without effort and without the hassle of the bulky window units. Prices have come down, so it's much more affordable than when they first came out.

Exhausts way too much air outside
1 Star Review   By HPR2 on Home Depot - Aug 26, 2012

The unit seems well built and easy to use. However it exhausts a very high volume of air (through the vent and out the window). This is a design constraint that makes the unit fight a losing battle. All that exhausted air must be replaced, which means hot humid air from outside is pulled into the house significantly offsetting all the cooling. We tried this unit in a 175 sq foot room with all doors shut. It ran all night long (quite noisy too) and only dropped the temperature 2 degrees (and the humidity went up in the room too). I think the design limitations of this unit make it impractical - replaced it the next day with a 6000 BTU LG window unit that worked WAY better for considerably less money.

Good and bad. Good looking, bad performance
2 Star Review   By Evan on Home Depot - Aug 24, 2012

The unit is nice size and weight. I like the remote and the ease of use of the control panel. The unit does not have enough cooling capacity. Started in a room that is at 80 deg F the air out the vents is no colder than 60 deg F. In a warm room, even a small room, it can not cool enough. The exhaust hose is short and I could not find extensions.

Good product for a good price
4 Star Review   By PMAJ on Home Depot - Aug 15, 2012

I am very pleased with the overall performace of this product. The first one I purchased was obviously a returned unit and did not have all of the parts - which was disappointing and meant lugging the not-so-light conditioner back to the store. Since it was the last unit available, I purchased the 9,000 BTU unit instead, but was not happy with it since I purchased the unit primarily to keep my dogs cool during the day and the 9,000 BTU unit, unlike the 7,000 BTU unit did not have louvers that angled down far enough to reach my dogs when they were lying on the floor. I returned the 9,000 BTU unit and bought another 7,000 BTU unit at a different store. The best part was that the customer service at Home Depot was courteous, helpful, and very efficient. I couldn't have had a better experience with my returns (except, of course, for not having had to return anything if the original purchase had included all of the parts I needed). As for the unit, I am much happier with the 7,000 BTU unit than the 9,000 BTU unit. Both kept my living room at about 80 degrees, which is about what I expected because it is a room that opens into both my dining room and another hallway, so I didn't expect it to keep it at 75 degrees or less. 80 degrees is still much better than the 90 degrees the room was averaging with the portable evaporative cooler I was using before. I am able to set the timer function to turn the machine on at about 1:00 or 2:00 which is when the sun starts shining in on the room, rather than having to turn it on in the morning when I leave for work. It is a nice energy saving feature. The filters are easy to clean and I have not had any problems taking them out or re-inserting them. I have had the unit for more than a month and have not yet had to drain the unit, but I live in a very dry climate, so users in a more humid climate may have to drain it more often. It is not too big, and was fairly easy to install. Overall, I'd say I'm very pleased with this purchase.

not a good product
1 Star Review   By JuJu on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012

I would like to know the genius who thought this one up. The temp never went below 88 and every 35 to 45 min the cooler would stop and it would read waterfull. This is probably why the temp never went down having to empty it constantly. This is where the genius part comes in. You have to lift this unit up in order to drain it. The drain plug is on the very bottom. It took my husband and I to lift this thing up and water was going everywhere. At least we were smart or genius enough not to keep going with it.

Did Not Work For Me
1 Star Review   By guywoj on Home Depot - Aug 12, 2012

I bought two of these at the same time and I had done everything right with this and installed like it said to do but it only worked 5 minutes cold for my room and then it would shut off and then all of sudden all it did was blow hot air and it would not go back to where it would go cold it worked more like a heater then an air conditioner I would say don't buy it...

A Great Product at a Great Price
5 Star Review   By Rickdell on Home Depot - Aug 12, 2012

I read a few reviews about this airconditioner being noisy. It's the same amount of noise a hear from any unit portable or window. If you want this unit to run at its max you need to reduce the run of the venting hose. I have my unit on a plastic filing box that I got from Staples. This brings the unit to almost the same height as the window vent and reduces the run to about 18".

No problems so far
4 Star Review   By Kenn on Home Depot - Aug 9, 2012

I purchased this for cooling my finished basement when the power goes out next time and I'm on generator power. This is probably not representative of how most user would use the unit, but it cool the basement very well (which really isn't saying much) since most it is underground. The air is very cold with an excellent flow, so it should work pretty well in a warmer room. I haven't used the window exhaust thing, since it is in the basement, I use my dryer vent/exhaust to expel the hot air. Even though the manual recommends not changing the exhaust. I haven't used the remote control. I'm not sure how well the dehumidifier setting works, it ran all day and my humidity gauge didn't budge off 65%.

Great for 10 days, then broke completely
1 Star Review   By cc531 on Home Depot - Aug 7, 2012

This air conditioner worked great for 10 days, I was very happy with it. Easy to install, cooled the room down quickly, great. Then it completely stopped working. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it was just dead, I tried plugging other things into the outlet which worked, so I know it was the air conditioner and not the outlet. I returned it.

The product is noisy but works well
3 Star Review   By Cooler on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

I purchased the product for my daughter's room as a supplement to the central ac. Due to the size, the height of the ceiling and the fact that it is over the garage the room does not get as cool as the rest of the house. I purchased this product to aide in that and it does the job adequately. The only problem it has is that is very noisy. If they could quiet it down I would rate it higher.

noisy
1 Star Review   By disappointed on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

This is the loudest air conditioner I ever bought. Within days of using it the fan began to clunk with every turn. You couldn't even hear the tv over it. It was easy to install and move around . It cooled pretty good, but not any better than a small window unit. We returned it to the store as soon as we could. Just couldn't stand the racket! And not for that price. I've heard motorcycles that made less noise.

This product is not living up to my expectations
1 Star Review   By ndunker on Home Depot - Jul 30, 2012

I purchased this item about a month ago, and I am very disapointed. The compressor kicks on and off all the time, only stays on for a short time, (and I am talking 1 or 2 min.) and kicks back off. Only drops the temp MAYBE 7 or 8 degrees. For the price I paid I certainly expected more out of this product!!!!!

Lives up to it's claims.
4 Star Review   By Gary on Home Depot - Jul 26, 2012

Overall I'm satisfied with this product. It does everything it claims to do. It's very efficient at cooling one room and the controls are pretty self explanatory. I found the exhaust hose a little difficult to work with when I was setting it up. It isn't very flexible and kept popping out of the rear of the unit when I was trying to adjust its positioning.

Portable but not super cool
3 Star Review   By NaiB on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2012

Love the mobility however, it must always be installed near a window and comes w a window unit. It is not self contained. It also only cools my small room by about 7-9 degrees and with 100 weather, it only makes a dent in the temperature. It emits cool air but this air does not cool the room.

Junk
2 Star Review   By Bigbob0922 on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2012

I bought this unit to cool my bedroom. The room is 9 X 10 feet with an 8 foot ceiling. First off the unit sounds like a 747 taking off when it is running, that wouldn't be too bad if it actually cooled. After running 5 hours in my bedroom it only dropped the temperature 3 degrees. I wish I had returned it while I could have.

Works ok as a supplement
3 Star Review   By RalphF on Home Depot - Jul 18, 2012

The 2nd level of my home is 1/2 my 13 year old sons bedroom and 1/2 my office (I work from home). The area is 14 x 32 with 2 dormers. I have a 10,000 btu portable unit on my sons side (actually does not cool as well as an 8000 btu window unit I had in his window) which keeps his side comfortable but last night it was almost 90 on my side. Went by Home Depot today, they had this 7000 btu unit floor model/open box on special so I bought it. Now my installation once I got home is interesting. I did not want to move my desk, computers, printers, etc around away from my window. I have a door to my walk in attic behind me. I cut a vent hole in the attic door and fit the A/C vent to the hole. It was already hot in my attic but you could probably bake bread in there now. I have been trying to work at my desk for the past few days and by @ 2 - 3 pm it has been over 80 degrees..it has been miserable. I have had this smaller unit running on low (as well as the larger unit at the other end running on low) for a few hours now and it is 75 degrees and comfortable. It worked. Will have to add an exterior vent to my attic but for the few days I will need it it certainly did its job!!. It is a little noiser than the other unit as well.

epic fail
1 Star Review   By lifeofloon on Home Depot - Jul 18, 2012

I purchased this unit yesterday for our bedroom which is about 160 square feet (well within the units capabilities, supposedly) After setting it up and letting it run all afternoon it still could not get our room below 90 degrees. We let it run all night and woke up to our room down to about 80 degrees. I thought ok it just needed some time to get the room cool now we're good. Well I came home today and our room is back up to 90 degrees. Yes I read the instruction manual. Yes I took the time to set it up properly. Yes the room is closed off and virtually airtight with the shades drawn and curtains closed. This unit is way too expensive for how lousy it works. It will be going back later today or tomorrow. As soon as I have a few minutes to take everything back apart.

Buy a larger unit!
2 Star Review   By CindyO on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2012

Doesn't quite fulfil the 200 sq. ft. cooling as advertised! Possibly an 8x8 sq ft room -- maximum?! I would advise you to buy a much larger unit. It's also VERY noisy.

Don't Bother
1 Star Review   By kaboom21 on Home Depot - Jul 15, 2012

Bought this unit 2 weeks ago because I have a roll-out window, and can't install traditional window units. The room temp when I installed it was only about 85 degrees. I set the temp to 62 on the unit, which is the lowest setting and let it run for an hour & half. The unit sounded like it was on fan mode the whole time (even though it wasn't), and didn't seem like it would ever cool off the room. But I gave it a chance & let it run. The lowest temp it reached was 80, after an hour and half!!! It was more than disappointing. It's a very LOUD unit, and the drain bucket is placed really low. So every time you need to drain it, you almost have to take it by a step, lean it over while you drain it in to another bucket on the lower step, if you can picture that. I returned the AC 2 days later.

Major Design Flaw
1 Star Review   By John on Home Depot - Jul 15, 2012

This product would be great except for one major design flaw. Because it has to cool the compressor, it sucks air in from the room to exhaust outside. However, the fan that does this is so powerful (likely to cool a cheaper, higher heat producing compressor) that the machine creates a negative pressure in the room. What this means is that by sucking air out of the room at a rapid rate, air from outside the room has to fill the room back up. The machine will either draw air from surrounding rooms around doorways (at a rate that surprised me even after I tried to seal up my door) or draw very hot outside air in. What ultimately happens is that the machine sucks up all the cool air it produces and draws the outside air into the room. This product would probably work much better in one room apartments where the unit can't draw hot air from other rooms like in a house. On further research I've found that a two hose system eliminates the negative pressure problem and acts much more like a window unit (which cools itself entirely with outside air and exhausts back outside). I would strongly suggest that if you want something that will cool a room efficiently but can't use a window unit, two hose systems are worth the added cost. They cool the room faster and tend to have higher cooling BTU's, which means they need to run at full power less and could even save money in the long term. I've already taken mine back for a full refund. The refund process was quick and easy but I hope to save a few people from that.

YOU HAVE TO INSTALL IT PROPERLY FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE!!!
5 Star Review   By KellyKanDoIt on Home Depot - Jul 13, 2012

I have seen a few negative feedback on this unit, and although I am not trying to be mean, one MUST install it properly or it will not cool down your room. My husband followed the instructions properly (he actually read them all) and it is very cool in here! This is honestly a great unit that is getting a lot of negative feedback based on improper installation. We LOVE ours!

Does what its supposed to
4 Star Review   By cody251 on Home Depot - Jul 12, 2012

I'm always frustrated when I read negative reviews and people say things like "It doesn't cool my 500sqft house!" and "its hard to put together!". First things first, it does and excellent job at what its rated to do. It took my daughters 180sqft room from 85 to 70 in no time! Again, notice I mentioned the size of the room matches the rated capacity of this unit (up to 200sqft). Its not that loud, but please remember MOST in-room A/C units are not quiet. The only thing truly quiet are heat pumps and whole-house A/C setups. But plan on shelling out $4-5k. For the few weeks of 85-90deg temps we get in Seattle, it does the trick in the hottest room of the house. Compact so it fits nicely in the room. No louder than our 10k btu Sharp and almost as efficient.

Did not work at all
1 Star Review   By Tina on Home Depot - Jul 10, 2012

I set this up as instructed and when it started it said the temperature in my room was 95 degrees. I set the temp to 75 and let it run for about 5 hours. It made noises, but never blew any cold air. The entire five hours the temperature stayed at 95 degrees. I turned it off and left the windows open overnight. I turned it on in the morning and the temperature was now 85. I set it again to 74. It made noises and released a bit of cold air, but not enough to make any bit of difference in the room and the temp stayed at 85. Needless to say, I returned it that very day and do not recommend anyone to buy it!

Works within its limits
3 Star Review   By ElBee on Home Depot - Jul 9, 2012

I bought this unit to cool my 140sq.ft home office/theater figuring that it would do fine with the room size. It hasn't turned out as well as I'd hoped but I can't blame the unit entirely, if at all. My installation wasn't standard as my house has awning style windows which don't allow window AC units thus the reason for a portable. I had to cut a piece of plywood to fit the window then cut a hole to match the 18" long vent piece. That was the most difficult part of the installation. Once the board was in place and the vent tube snapped in and connected to the unit, it has been working fine within its abilities. My mistake in buying the unit falls on me not being able to accurately factor in the various sources of heat within the room which I didn't consider until noticing how the unit was not reaching my desired temp of 68 with equipment running (currently 72). They say when calculating for AC in a room that functions as a kitchen, you should add roughly 6000 BTU to the total needed which doesn't directly apply here but they also say that if the room will have more than two people in it, add roughly 600 BTU/person to the total needed. In my case, I am probably warm enough to count as two people so any additional persons need to be accounted for immediately. Since I could not find an easy way to account for the heat generated by my computers and their peripherals, I can only relate to them in terms of humans. (Warning: No real science follows...) My monitors put temp out at 95 degrees F on the surface. I relate that to the average human body temp so figure I need an extra 600 BTU per monitor when they're on. My projector vents 120 degrees and then interestingly enough, the vent tube for the AC measures around 95 to 100 degrees on the surface which radiates slightly. Throw in a couple incandescent light bulbs at 160 degrees (depending on wattage) and I'd probably need to factor an extra 4000 BTU. All the mumbo jumbo out of the way, the unit does reach 68 to 70 just fine when the other electronics are off. Hovers between 72 to 75 depending on what is on but that usually means the compressor is running constantly which would probably shorten its life measurably. The unit is too loud to run while watching a movie or trying to Skype without a headset but is tolerable the rest of the time. Probably between 50 and 60 decibels (can't find my SPL meter) Drainage is not an issue (throw a cookie sheet under it when its time). I have had other LG products that have held up fine and I would expect the same from this one provided it is installed in the correct setting. I would love to see usage calculators made available to help people choose their unit based on intended usage and make people aware of factors to include. Choosing by square footage of a room is far from sufficient. Time to go find an 11,000 or 12,000 BTU unit...

Surprised at the unit and how well it works
4 Star Review   By Universitycooled on Home Depot - Jul 9, 2012

I was looking at different units and was unsure about the efficiency this unit would provide. My office is 80° or more if I did not have this unit. This unit chills the room to a point that I can actually say it is cold. The only downfall I can see is that the timer doesn't allow for over 24 hours to allow for the office to be bearable after the weekend.

HOLY LOUD!!
1 Star Review   By jennisue on Home Depot - Jul 9, 2012

Wow. I like sleeping with a fan on. I like white noise. But with this unit, I kind of felt like I was sleeping inside of a jet engine... or not really sleeping actually. Besides that, it didn't lower the temp. of the room. If you point it at yourself, you will feel like your in an cool wind tunnel, which is kind of fun... but honestly its not worth the money. There are better units out there. Sorry LG.

Got 3 months of use and no help from LG. Don't waste your money on it
1 Star Review   By Frustrated on Home Depot - Jul 8, 2012

Purchase for my autistic sons bedroom. It's worked ok for 3 months but didn't perform good enough to keep his room cool in 90 degree weather. cleaned, drained and allowed it to dry completely before boxing it up for the winter. Set it up this week and the display lights went off right after the machine was turned on. Can't see if it is on cool or fan or what temp it's set at. People at LG barely spoke English and didn't understand any of my questions or offer any trouble shooting. Said no supervisor was available. They referred me to their website where I found out it would cost almost $90 just to see "IF" they can fix it. I'll never buy anything LG again.

sorry piece of machinery
1 Star Review   By billyjo on Home Depot - Jul 2, 2012

with hot weather coming, I bought this 7000 btu air conditioner for a 12x12 bedroom. I was told at the time of purchase that if I had any issues the a/c could not be returned unless everything, manuals, batteries, etc all had to be in it's original packaging or I'd have to deal with L/G directly. I've had L/G window units that worked great so what are the odds but it should have been a warning. After running for 2 days straight exhausted through a east window, the temperature finally got down to 83 degrees during the day and 76 at 6am. I called L/G saying that was unacceptable and went around and around answering redicilous questions over and over and over. That was an experience in itself. Finally they decided there must be something wrong with the unit and they'd have someone come to my home to repair.. To my surprise I got a call from the repair company within minutes. The repair company informed me that they don't do in home repair and I'd have to bring it in. OK, I'll lug it down the stairs, take time off from work, and bring it to the repair shop. Before I could do so, I got another call from the repair shop stating they were having issues with L/G and severed their relationship with L/G so will no longer service them. I'll call tL/G again but it's all rather frustrating. Purchase at your own risk.

It's Alright
3 Star Review   By Chris on Home Depot - Jul 2, 2012

I bought this because my bedroom faces south and has two outside walls. The room regularly used to be 77-82 degrees during the day. It cools my 10X11 room fine in the morning and evening hours but toward the middle of the day it struggles a bit. The condensation tank is very small, very little water came out when I unscrewed the cap and pulled out the rubber plug. The 4 filters got dirty fairly quick for how see through they are in my opinion. While the filters won't look dirty after about a month, clean them. After a month of daily use, it seems to not cool as well as it used to, whether that's due to the much warmer temps, I don't know. The unit does cycle off if it runs too long but can't meet the desired temp. I wouldn't recommend this because it seems to stop working after a month, why would I recommend a product that doesn't work?

Terrible Purchase
1 Star Review   By SadintheSummer on Home Depot - Jul 2, 2012

Despite all the poor reviews I read about portable air conditioning units I decided to purchase this product because I needed a cheap unit to cool a single bedroom. Big mistake. First problem came when setting it up. The molding on the window panel and the exhaust tube did not fit together so I had to try and tape everything together with duck tape. Jerry-rigged a set up and got the thing running. Checked about an hour later and it had stopped. Hmmm...flashing light indicator says that water drop pan is full. Wait a minute! I thought this was a self evaporating machine as advertised on the box! So I look in the manual and sure enough there is no water collection tank to empty but you DO have to drain the machine. Unfortunately the drain is located on the bottom of the unit about 1/2" off the floor so you can't just put a bucket under it. You need to lift or move it as described in the manual. So convenient. As soon as I lifted the unit water spilled out the side all over the floor. Great. Finally got the thing drained and running again. Of course, about one hour later the machine stopped again due to full water collection bin. What happened to self evaporating? Oh yah...you have to empty it yourself. I'm returning this machine immediately. Don't buy this machine. Save yourself the headache and spend the extra money on a window unit.

No problems here
4 Star Review   By Cam455 on Home Depot - Jul 1, 2012

I got this at Home Depot during a sale, and received 10% off because the box was a little damaged. I got another 10% off because of a coupon so it ended up being a great price. I've had it for 1 day and the day was over 100*. I have central air, however it always feels like a sauna in my bedroom on the 3rd floor of the house. After getting this air conditioner, I slept comfortably for the first time in the summer since I bought the house 3 years ago. My room temp started at 84* and less than 24 hours after putting this in, the room temp was 73*. My room is about 15x20 and there is no door. This is a good product and does the job so far and on the hottest day of the year. I will update if I have any issues like the others say, but it is worth it to me!

WORKS FOR ME
4 Star Review   By GARYUGOOD on Home Depot - Jul 1, 2012

BOUGHT THIS UNIT LAST YEAR FOR SUPPLEMENTARY COOLING. I HAVE CENTRAL AIR. MY BEDROOM IS OVER THE GARAGE. EXAMPLE: LAST NIGHT THE HOUSE WAS 73 DEGREES. MY ROOM 79. THIS UNIT COOLED MY ROOM TO 72 WITHIN AN HOUR. TEMP. OUTSIDE WAS 94 DEGREES. READ ALL REVIEWS.. PEOPLE DONT SEEM TO REMEMBER THAT THIS UNIT IS ONLY 7000 BTU'S. IF IT IS YOUR ONLY SOURCE OF COOLING, YOU NEED MORE POWER. I CAN FREEZE MY ROOM WITH THIS THING. REMEMBER: I USE IT FOR SUPPLEMENTARY COOLING. STATES THAT IT IS FOR A 200 SQ. FT.. ROOM. THAT IS SMALLER THAN 9 X 12. MY ROOM IS 12 X 15 .. A LITTLE NOISY, BUT WORKS WELL. INCIDENTALLY, I INSTALLED THE UNIT IN A PATION DOOR. VENT VERTICAL WITH ADDITIONAL MATERIAL TO SEAL THE OPENING

Does What We Need it to Do
4 Star Review   By CR25 on Home Depot - Jun 30, 2012

I was quite apprehensive about portable units especially after reading some of these reviews. Afterall, window units are generally less expensive and more efficient, but we do not have central air and didn't want to hang a window unit out the front of the house. After extensive research and adjusting my expectations, we bought the unit anyway, thinking it could always be returned if it had any problems. Result: 2+ months later and we could not be happier. This unit takes the humid edge off the New England Summer days exactly how we wanted. With the help of 2 ceiling fans already installed, the 7,000 BTU's seem to cool more than just the aforementioned 200 sq. ft. I picked it up in the store and it was easy to move and extremely easy to install. My only concern is that the thermometer does not seem to tell the true temperature of the room. However that is a small drawback to an otherwise very decent unit.

You Get What You Pay For
3 Star Review   By hilandmac on Home Depot - Jun 30, 2012

Set up for me was very easy, took me 10 minutes to get it into place for a test run. I did not screw the window piece into place as I felt, based on reading reviews, it needed a test run. I simply pinned it into the window sill. Ease of install will depend on your windows. Noise is about the same as a typical hotel unit, the kind that sits in the exterior wall, not quiet, but won't keep you up. It pumped out cool air, but takes awhile to cool a room. I never got my room below 74-75 (started at 80), but I did not run it all night. THE UNIT'S FAN RUNS CONSTANTLY, THOUGH THE COMPRESSOR WILL CYCLE ON AND OFF. It has a nice sleep feature, it will turn itself off after a few hours (you set it), so it won't run all night if you don't want. If you are thinking about 72 degress, you'll probably find this unit underpowered. I'm torn about whether to return it or not, but probably will. Bottom line, you get what you pay for, and this was a relatively inexpensive unit.

1 Star Review   By msjanw on Home Depot - Jun 27, 2012

I feel like a real dummy. I should have read these reviews before I purchased this! Lets put it this way, before I turned the unit on last night, the temperature outside was 89. The temperature inside was 90. By the time I woke up, the temperature had only dropped to 84 degrees in my 12 x 12 room. And by that time (6:00 a.m.), the temperature outside was cooler than 84 degrees. I'm returning this as soon as I get a chance!

Dislike
1 Star Review   By Coliving1 on Home Depot - Jun 24, 2012

This unit was expensive and doesnt work. I dont understand it at all. If its over 82 outside, the temp wont drop below 70 after setting it to 62 and running for 10 hours. It cost about 35-40 a month to run. Its about 102 outside, and 80 in the room. The room is about 10 by 12, not big. What I really dislike is, air comes in through the window, and the tube...I can hear everything people are saying outside. Its crazy. The window ones work great. The problem also with this is...the tube gets hot, we wrap it ip, but it just wont cool. Sometimes it will get down to 64, but it has to be under 80 out. So dont buy it if you live where it gets over 80. Its worthless, and it cost alot to run. It is not energy star rated. I called my electric company, and they said the unit, is not a good one. I am going back to the window unit, that works and gets it to 62 in the room. Wish I didnt spend 260.00 on this junk. Live and Learn

I ran the unit in my bedroom for about 4 hours. It did take out a lot of the humidity but the cooling effect was nothing to brag about. not cold enough
1 Star Review   By fastfreddie on Home Depot - Jun 21, 2012

Bought this because I live in an old farm house with small windows. Followed directions and let it sit upright for a day. It cooled overnight was 70 degrees in the AM. Room is only 11 1/2 ft by 15 ft. Set at 70 and went to work. Came home 9 hours later was 87 in the room with the AC running on high all day. It was a hot day 93 high temp. But what a waste of money. Took it back no problem exchanged it for a 10,000 Btu window unit. Had to alter the window but so far so good. I would stay away from portable and stick to window unit. Will leave review about the LG 10,000 unit tommorrow

Don't waste your time or money
1 Star Review   By Stephanie on Home Depot - Jun 21, 2012

Bought this yesterday as I wanted to be able to take the unit out and close the window while I wasn't home for security purposes (we live in a ranch, so first floor bedrooms). Wasn't excited about spending a good amount more money for a similar window BTUm but figured peace of mind was worth it. First, be sure you have a car in which you can lug it home upright as they told me I would have to wait 48 hours if I tipped it on its side to fit in the trunk. Ended up riding as my squished passenger in the front seat of my coupe. Got it home and it took a frustrating hour to get everything together because the hose kept falling out of both parts it was attached to when I would go to attach the other side. The plastic is cheap. It is incredibly loud (like "a freight train through our bedroom," as my husband put it) and, as another reviewer said, is a glorified fan at best. Our room is less than 200 sq. feet (the size it was meant for) and it never got much cooler than 74 with it running all night and was still pretty humid. Will be a pain to box back up and return but there is no way this is worth $279 (with MA tax is ~$195).

*LOUD *Never got below 77 degrees *Never Shut Off...just kept on running... never got cold in the room! Had it one day; took it back to Home Depot. Do yourself a favor, do research first. This one is a dog!

Absolutely Terrible

This piece of garbage is terrible. From the cheaply made hose to the stripping. I would never let anyone I know buy one.

Don't waste your time or money

I bought this on Sunday and I'm returning today. Was hoping to cool my medium sized living room during a heat wave. I should have trusted my instincts and bought a window unit in the first place. I'm usually impressed with LG products but this unit is a waste of time. Does NOT meet even my lowest expectations. I've been running it for 2 solid days at the lowest temp and highest fan setting and it's 85 degrees in here. Don't even bother with this unit.

Room was cooled but didn't get cold

Temp wouldn't go below 72 in the room. The hose that goes to your window gets somewhat warm, which of course adds heat to the room. It's also VERY LOUD. I like white noise So I like hearing fans and air conditioners. But this thing is in another league. I'm telling you, it's really loud! I'll be returning it and getting a window unit. I'll just have to figure out a way to secure it.

Not as good as a window unit.

I PURCHASED THIS AIR CONDITIONER ON APRIL 23, 2012. My room is not 200 square feet; it is maybe 150 sq. ft. This air conditioner is at best a glorified high powered fan. If the temperature is 93 degrees outside, then the best you can get inside is 80 degrees. In fact the temperature never goes down below 77 degrees in my small room. I had the repair man come in and repair this unit when I first tried to use it and it is not any better now than before he came. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone.

It looks good.

The cons will be that it would a bit noisy when it's running. Others are fine, and it looks really cool and easy for installation.
